boo for being responsible!

boo for being responsible!

Ok DH and I come from families where NO ONE has ever had a new car, we only buy used. DH took out $5K from the house fund and bought a new Jeep this summer ( he HAD to, his car was dying )

I pay the bills and I have been paying off like 4x what we need to each month on it ( I technically don't have to pay again until 2010, LOL ). Once we are almost done I have been planning to get a brand new Ford.

Well, my FIL offered to give us a 2002 Buick Lesabre in perfect condition for FREE bc he wants to buy a new car for my MIL. I know with this economy blah blah blah I should take the offer and be grateful but it just stinks bc I know if i dont buy a new car NOW I will never have one.

Poop on being a grown up.

Take the Buick....and by the time that dies, you can buy yourself a BMW

Yay for the car! but boo its not exactly what you wanted

if you were planning on making a monthly payment on the car- you may want to start doing that anyhow- put it in an account & use it as a downpayment on your next car- that way you can get your new car- just not now

Tilde,

Take the Buick, and when the economy firms up a bit, use that as a trade in on a new car.

i just bought out the lease on my car because leasing a new one or even trying to buy a new one just did not make financial sense. I also have really low milage, so that was a factor in my decision.

Good luck !

Marybeth you are so damn smart.

Tilde that is an awesome idea from MB. I had a buick and it ran soooo nicely, even when it got rearended twice. And the damage from those accidents was easily fixed - those things are built WELL. Good luck with it :)

I think I will do that PLUS once I am done paying the Jeep I can add that amount to savings each month!

Ohhh I totally know how you feel!!! Totally been there and def took the free car for awhile. I saved money for several months and then one day I hit a deer and the old buick needed alot of work so I got a new car!
