Bounced Checks....

Bounced Checks....

ok, so a relative....a cousin of one of my parents gave us a check for our wedding, we cashed it the first time and it bounced (but only cost us 10 bucks thank god) so My Mom said to try to deposit it again...so we did and it bounced again!

I have to vent b/c i really think it's rude. Don't write a check if you can't have someone cash it and frankly it wasn't even for that large of an amount. (sorry was that mean?? but seriously....give cash if you don't balance your account properly)

But my real question is....Do I send a Thank You?

OMG....
Well, I guess you send a thank you but don't write 'thank you for your gift.' just write thank you for attending...? I would think they are going to realize it bounced & be terribly embarrassed. I bet they address it by calling you or sending another gift.

when did the first bouncing occur? maybe the guest doesn't even know about it yet.... and will call you up when they do? maybe just hold off a few weeks on the TY card until the dust settles with this?

maybe it truly was a 'faux pas'-- dont jump the gun... yet. Have your mom 'ask' or call them and ask yourself--- better to know for sure....

i wouldnt send a 'thank you for your gift' card-- I had alot of guests who didnt give ANYTHING and altho i was pissed-- I still sent a thank you.

I always say, dont write checks your @ss cant cash! But on a serious note, maybe wait a little bit and see what happens, they will notice the bounce at some point

OMG I just check my checking account and almost spit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a total of $90 worth of bounce check fees from guest and get this one was for $25 yeap I cant wait until tomorrow to find out who bounced those checks and yes I will be sending them a formal notice of collection...that will include the check fee...the nerve...

I though I passed this along enough to folks that they should only give cash or we even except money orders...this was an informal message that I gave to one of my big mouth friends that I just knew would pass the word

oh shoot i just figured out who gave the $25 check what the

lol.........

You think they would've noticed the first time....we cashed it the day after our wedding, it bounced while we were on our honeymoon so last week we re-deposited it after my Mom said too, soooo today it came up in our account as a bounced check! So it's not like they couldn't have noticed the first time & they are my Moms closer cousins....(who aren't in any sort of debt either) I don't mind if you can't afford a gift b/c of some unforseen circumstance or can only give a little amount, that's totally understandable but to cost me money for my wedding after what I spent on you at my wedding is just weird and if the tables were turned I would never do that. For it to happen twice is tacky!

Honestly Dev, I WOULD NOT send a Thank you. They KNOW the check Bounced the first time and they didn't even bother to call up or say SORRY!!!

I know it's mean but I would NOT send a thank you. Bouncing a check is ALSO MEAN!!!!

Devon I had one bouce check, the same situation, it was cashed the day after my wedding and when i got back from my HM it was it was in my mail, we got charged a fee...IMO I feel like her fee added on to her price per plate, she ate and drank for free all night received a favor and I am not further spending money on a stamp to mail a thank you...what am I thanking them for they cost me even more money like a wedding day is not costly enough...IMO this really pisses me off and its worse than just not giving a gift.

Re: Bounced Checks....

I would wait a week or two and call the bank and ask if the funds would clear, I do that for work all the time, when we get checks in from clients large or small, once in a blue moon someones check bounces, I just call the bank on the check and state that I am trying to verify funds in this account and give the account number, they cant tell you anything other then if the funds would clear, tell them the amount of the check. I would wait to send them a thank you until this all passes, hopefully it will just clear, if not, then send a tyc anyway and dont thank them for the gift.
Im sure they will do the right thing, at least I would hope they would, you really have to wonder about people....sorry you are going through this
