Brides that got married at a church....

My brother is in the process of planning his wedding....and he was wondering about something.
I got married at the hall, and he's getting married at a church, so i didn't know what to tell him...

He wanted to do a morning mass at around 10 and then have an afternoon reception around 1pm. I thought it would be cutting it too close, as they would need to take pictures in between and have the recieving line and all after the ceremony.

Did any of you have a morning ceremony at a church and then go to an afternoon reception?

Thanks!

I didn't but my best friend did, she had an 11am mass and a 3:30 reception though and we had plenty of time!

I had an afternoon ceremony & evening weddig, but the ceremony was at 4 & the reception at 7, so we had 3 hours ( same as 10-1) & it was plenty of time. We were done before 6:30 with pictures. My ceremony was relatively short though- we didn't have Communion.

Also, we took pictures outside hall. If we went to a seperate location I imagine we would have needed a little more time.

Then it just might work for them.....the other problem is that the church is in Massapequa, and the hall they're looking at is in Glen Cove.....so it might take a lot of time to travel.

I only had a ceremony not a mass. My ceremony was at 3 and my cocktail hour at 6 and we could've used a little more time to get in some more pics ( I missed most of the cocktail hour btwn pics and getting bustled) It also depends on how far apart the church and reception hall are. We had to get from Port Jefferson to Wading River so that adds in time too.

I had an afternoon Mass (3 pm) and cocktail hour started at 7. We traveled in between to take pictures. If that's the case for them, I suggest taking as much time as possible. We still ended up taking some pics at the hall and missed part of cocktail hour. IMO you don't want to be rushed for pics. (They were very important to me!)

I had a full Mass and we went to OWG for pics so I left plenty of time for pics, and still felt rushed.

Ceremony was at 2pm, reception at 6:30pm = a 3.5 hour gap which quickly became a 3 hour gap when the limos made me 20 minutes late to my ceremony.

IMO, 10 am ceremony with a 1pm reception is cutting it close unless they are doing their pictures at the reception site.

that's the point I was trying to make to him the other night!! i was trying to explain that there are things that go wrong that you have no control over, so you have to be prepared!

our ceremony at the church was at 3pm (Brooklyn) and the cocktail hour started at 6pm at Leonards... we took pictures at a park in Garden City and we were at Leonard's just when the cocktail hour was beginning... so I think 3-3.5 hours should be fine...

I think it is too close if they want to go somewhere in between the church and the reception to take photos, or if the hall is that far from the church or photo spot. We had a 3:30 full mass, we had no receiving line and went straight to the hall after church. By the time we got up to the hall, it was after 5:00 and we took about an hour to take photos there. Our reception was at 6:00. For us, less than 3 hours worked because we only had a MOH and BM as our wedding party. If we had more people, I think we definitely would have missed some or most of the CH.

The other factor with church is that sometimes people show up who are not invited to the reception, because they want to see you and they wnat to say hello and give you their regards. Almost everyone takes at least a few photos after church, and as Sandra mentioned, things are sometimes not within your control. The driving to Glen Cove is not really a straight shot either. There is still a decent distance to drive once you get off the parkway.
