I will have my ceremony in Carroll Gardens and reception in Park Slope. I thought about spending my wedding night at the Brooklyn Marriot with my out-of-town guests (ok, no one is really from out of town - just LI) but there's nothing really fun to do (clubs, bars) near the Marriott should we decide to go out. What did you guys do?

Re: Brooklyn Brides - Where did you block rooms?
Where is your ceremony/reception? I live in the area and just curious :D
The Brooklyn Marriott is really the only real hotel in Brooklyn but its not terribly convienent or in a great area.
You might want to look into some of the small B&B in Park Slope. I dont know any offhand as Ive never needed one but I know there are a few.

By the way - I dont think (i could be wrong and be forgetting someone) that any of the newlyweds got married in Park Slope/Carroll Gardens/Bklyn Heights - so they wont be much help in this dept.

Hi Stef!
The ceremony will be at St. Mary's Star of the Sea on Court Street; the reception either at Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture or the Boathouse at Prospect Park. We haven't seen the boathouse yet (except from across the lake when we're walking our dag) but we're going this weekend to look.
We're having a 3 hour cocktail reception, with about 80 guests, so a smaller place is good for us.

I loooooooooveeeee the BoatHouse! If I had fewer guests I would have been all over that place.
Edited to add that Ive never been in your church but its very cool looking on the outside.

OMG _ I never saw photos of the Boathouse. Thanks! It looks so cool! I'm also assuming they have parking which is a big plus over Ethical Culture. I can't wait to see it.

I worked at Ethical Culture for a while when I was in high school/college. The building is beautiful but a little run down. And the layout of the rooms makes for an awkward party IMO unless you having a VERY SMALL party (50 or less). You can put a tent up in the backyard to avoid that but I would imagine that gets expensive. But from what I remember it a lot cheaper than the Boat House so thats a consideration.
A few movies were filmed there - a scene in Malcolm X and a few scenese of The Royal Tenebaums.
