calling out of work sick

calling out of work sick

Does anyone get a whole lot of crap the day after they call out sick or is it just me??

I called out sick on Tuesday because I had a bad migraine headache that started Monday evening. Ended up vomiting all night & only got about an hour of sleep, which was from 6-7AM. Tuesday, 7AM DH woke me up, (I fell asleep on the bathroom floor) & I still had a migraine & was still nauseas. We live in Brooklyn, which means an hour train ride in Manhattan for work. So, I called out sick.

Some additional information: I work in a small office, only 4 full time employees & 1 part time employee. We do not have a set amount of sick, personal or vacation days. Basically if you ask for vacation or personal days my boss will give them to you. However, when you call in sick, he flips. You should also know that MIL is the office manager & when I have called in sick she gives me an attitude. Then immediattly texts DH to find out what is going on.
Another thing is that MIL & my boss both know that I have been seeing my doctor for frequent migraines as well as a neurologist. I am also on prescription medication for migraines. (Thats how bad & for how long I have been suffering with me.)

WOW that seems like such a tangled web you have going on there with the MIL working with you and being in your business like that and all.

I think it's wrong of them to treat you like that because you call out sick. People get sick. It's a part of life and they will need to take off from work becuase they are sick from time to time.

I don't have this problem so much in my office. But in the branches they do. people tend to get angry when other's call out sick becuase it messes with scheduling, etc. But when you are sick you are sick. I think it's unethical to treat someone poorly because they legitimately called out sick.

Edit to add: I hope you feel better and the migraine meds work.

Gina - I used to do things like this. because I always feel like my coworker's don't believe me. When I called out from an allergic reaction and my eyes swelled up.. I took a pic and showed my coworker's it.

wow...thats really not fair of them to treat you that way whenn you call out sick. I mean I could see if you were someone who abused sick days, but when you are actually calling out bc you are sick then its not fair for you to be made to feel guilty.
