Camera question - Nikon D60 digital

Does anyone have an opinion about the Nikon D60 digital camera ?

I have to replace my old 35mm Canon EOS Rebel that died and cannot be fixed. I loved that camera. I bout it in 1989 and it took the most amazing photos. It traveled with me to so many countries...........

I like shooting photos, but the smaller digitals just don't do it for me. DH has a Sony Sure Shot, but I can't get the pics that I used to take. I am used to a larger camera and lenses.

Any input is greatly appreciated. I would like to buy one this weekend before we leave for our vacation. The vacation is a destination wedding, and I would like to be able to shoot the wedding as well as our vacation.

TIA,
Susi

I know that over on LIF a lot of the moms rave about the Nikon D40.

I'm not sure about the D60. I am assuming it's better because it's a better model.

I'm actually contemplating getting one as well. The current issue of Popular Photography has a feature on this class of camera with ratings. I was 99% sure I was going to get the D60 before reading it; now, I'm about 50/50 with the new Canon. Def worth taking a look at the article.

Also, check out dpreview.com. They have a review up of the 60.

I think earlier this week Newsday had an article about the d40, d60 and others more $$$ in Nikon series. I think the article seemed to think the d40 was better - - maybe you can check if it's available online.

btw at least on the d40 there was some special where you got a second lens for xtra $100 good til july 31 at auth dealers. if you do get the d60, maybe offer is for that too if you want another lens.

I have the D60 and DH has the D40. We both love our cameras but we both agree that mine is slightly better.

Thanks ladies for all your input.

I did some research on dpreview yesterday and am leaning towards the Nikon D60. The new Canon Rebel XSi is also interesting, a bit more expensive but it also has more megapix. My 35mm was a Canon, so I know they are good cameras.
This was another site that I went to for reviews :

Digital Camera reviews

My next step is going to the shops to actually see each of the cameras, to find out how they feel in my hands and if the various controls are easy to access.

Again, thanks ladies.

Re: Camera question - Nikon D60 digital

I shoot with a D80 and love it at work I shoot with a D200 and my father just purchased the D3 which I only have picked it up and handled it for a few hours. I am a fan of NIkon and always have been. Canon Rebel's are great, I can't discredit them but for me Nikon has better optics with their lenses. You gotta rule what is more important to you for what you use that camera for.

All of zone focusing, all have auto features and manual, optics/speed?, m pixels? For me I rather go a little more expensive and get more megal pixels but I also want speed so I can do a series of shots with out getting a hang up with the shutter. Best bet go to TWO camera shops and really have a salesman tell you about the camera, handle the camera and then say what you shoot and what you hope to shoot with the camera.
