Can I change the name on my bank account before DMV and SS

I haven't gone to the DMV or SS yet.....Now my name change went through at work and now my checks will say my new name......SOOO can I change it at the bank without going to DMV and SS yet???

I think all you need at the bank is your marriage license

I would change my name at SS as soon as possible. Your ss# is used to track almost every financial aspect of your life. It's better if the name attached to your SS# matches the name you are using for financial institutions (pensions, life insurance etc.) This is especially true if you are completely changing your name, and not hypehnating.

I changed my name on our bank account first then SS and DMV all they needed was the MC.

All you need is your marriage license, but you are going to have a problem once you file your income taxes, they will hold any monies until your SS# is changed

For the bank you just need your marriage lic., but my bank checks your drivers lic. when you cash a check so I had to hypenate my name until I go to DMV and change everything over. It's been a real pain I'm going to change everything over xmas break.

That's correct!

oooh...totally depends on the bank. Mine required seeing my drivers license and my letter from social security AND my marriage license. it's best to do it at the DMV and SS before the bank and work.
