can you help me come oup with a new xmas tradition???
since this is our first married xmas - we want to tyr and do something that can become a tradition every year...does anyone do somehting special they can share??

we're such cornballs - we have always doen that - we also have lil christmas which is us exchagnign our presents in private - it started wheni lived at school and we would do it before we wnet out with our families and its stuck since....

I remember seeing on a wedding story, this couple would get each other a handblown christmas ornament. What about giving an ornament that means something to the two of you? Each year you will be able to remember the last and your tree will always be filled with memories.

ok, ready to kill me??? we alreaady do this too - my mom always did this when we were little for my sister and i so mike and i have been doing it since we started going out...i shoudl give up - we have too many traiditons already i think!!

I think this is something the 2 of you need to come up with not something we can choose for you (and you seem to be pretty good at making traditions already ). Traditions shouldn't be forced anyway and it seems like you have quite a few great ones going on anyway....

Humm,
This is our 4th Christmas together, 1st married.
Traditions: My family always opened 1 gift on Christmas Eve, DH and I have continued this.
Also: Since our 1st holiday, we have also always made some 'private' time together. But I imagine this may change when we have kids in a few years....

We try to find one evening to drive around and look at the Christmas lights, and during the craziness of the season, try to find one day to do something fun and christmassy without it being a shopping expedition.
Today, we went to the north fork for the winery tour. It was loads of fun - got a grape vine wreath and ornaments at the participating wineries. Stopped for dinner at Fauna in Abaquogue and had a great meal - they were offering discounts to the tour participants.
A winter tradition - if we get a good snowstorm we like to light a fire in the fireplace and turn off the lights and watch the snow out the window.

why not snuggle up together with eggnog or hot cocoa and watch your favorite christmas movies...

How about buying something like Dept 56 villages? Buy 1 piece every year & build up your collection.

Maybe make a toast with your toaasting flutes from your wedding or watch you video or look at you pictures. Maybe make an annual trip to a nursing home or children's hospital.

That's what my honey and I plan on doing.. we're actually going shopping this week to buy our first piece... we're going to look for the church...for obvious symbolic reasons!

My hubby and I cut our tree down this year. We had a great time. He also plans on having a little get together at our house with close friends for some drinks and hors devours.

This will be our sixth Christmas together, 1st married. However, we have always done the traditional purchasing of gifts, but we also do a make-a-gift. It's so cool to see the creative side of your partner and those are the gifts you never forget. We also do it with both families.

My DH and I plan on doing this, too. We'll start next year, though, since this year we have SO many expenses trying to get this house in shape.
Also, my mom bakes a ton of Christmas cookies every year. I'm going to continue the tradition with DH. He bought me a cookie press a few days ago! I guess it was a hint to get started!!
Sometimes I think traditions just happen spontaneously. You do something one year, then the next, and suddenly it's a yearly tradition for you. But that doesn't mean you can't create one on purpose.
Maybe a special night where you rent or watch all the Christmas movies (Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Frosty, etc.) while you have snacks and egg nog??
Or a special Tree Trimming night, where you put on Christmas music, drink hot chocolate (maybe add a little rum), and trim the tree together. That's what DH and I did this year.
There are SO many special things you can do at this time of year. That's why I simply adore Christmastime.
