Can you help me help a friend get an engagement ring? (long)
DH's good friend is thinking of looking at engagement rings. This is such a big deal to hear this. When DH told me I got a bit of a queazy feeling of excitement in my stomach! This couple has been dating 7 1/2 years, always have been a perfect match for each other, and they are two great, hardworking people. DH's friend has been forced to live on his own since 11th grade. His family basically abandoned him because they had too many of their own issues. Well, DH's friend has been able to pull through, always had his own apt. and car, kept any and all the jobs he's ever needed, and even put himself through college all the while. Now he and his girlfriend live together and are just about able to make ends meet. Needless to say, DH's friend never had much of a savings. Also, he was never ready for marriage b/c he didn't want things to go bad and for a marriage to end. I guess he's seen the worst of worst and didn't want anything but a successful marriage. His girlfriend had been nagging him for a while but stopped and recently they came to a good understanding of where each other was coming from.
Well, now that he understands her and feels she understands him, he's ready to get married! He figures he can get together $5,000 (which is a good amount of money) for an engagement ring. Her parents plan to cover the entire wedding. He wants to get her a beautiful ring and, from what she's told me, she likes edwardian style.
So, can anyone recommend a place where DH's friend can get a ring? Some place where his money might go a bit farther? THANKS!

Sorry I can't help you with the ring but I just want to wish your friends the best of luck. Sounds like they can get through just about anything. She is a lucky girl

You could suggest the Whitman Coin & Jewelry Exchange in Huntington. We didn't get my e-ring from there, but did get wedding bands and oother jewelry over teh years, and I thought they had good pricesBest of luck to him

What a sweet story...Estate Jewels in Huntington has antique rings as well as antique reproduction settings from many eras - Edwardian included.
Best of luck to your friends...

Another suggestion is the flea market. There are so many jewelers competing there that you can really wind up getting a great deal

Tell him to try the Commack Jewelry Exchange. They are the old jewelry vendors from the Long Island Arena Flea Market. There are a few vendors in there that have some great items!

He can go to Fortunoff's. I am very careful about buying diamonds from places that I don't know so just have him understand what to look for, quality, etc...Welcome New Vendors
