I have always used Loreal Feria and just went to the salon to have the highlights put it. I was recently thinking of going all dark because I want to give my hair a break from the bleach and let it get healthy again. I am also in the mood for a change and can save a lot of money by dying my own hair. The problem is I love the color when I first dye it but then after a week or two it fades I know red is a very hard color to keep up with but if anyone has any recommendations let me know. I am always so nervous to try a new color because I dont know how it will look.

It's been years since I've used a home coloring kit since I just go to my salon now. I really like Feria when I used the box. You're hair is oxidizing that's why it's getting lighter. MIL uses Preference by Loreal.

If I touch it up at home, I prefer Loreal Presentation. Years ago, I used to go to a beauty supply store for my color..I think it was by Wella or Clairol. I may go back to doing that. You can find them at Sally Beauty or Ricky's...maybe they can recommend something. I have the Frederik Fekkai toner (conditioning treatment...I can't remember the name) I use at home too...that seems to freshen up my color in between.

I do a single process color on my hair to cover the gray and make it close to my natural color. I go to a very small salon in Douglaston where my friend works, and she only charges $40 for the color job. She did an amazing job on color correction after a big salon messed up my hair with highlights. My hair is a medium brunette with red undertones.

I dyed my hair back to it's natural dark color after having highlights for a long time. No one noticed.
Even having my hair done in the salon, red always seemed to fade but I didn't mind because I like the color anyway. But if you don't red is always going to require more upkeep.
I was told at the salon my hair is #5 which translates to a medium natural brown in the box. So in between cuts I will do the touch ups on my own to cover the premature grays. And save lots of money!
I use the Loreal Preference Cream. It drips a lot less so I don't ruin my bathroom.
