Cape Cod Help

Cape Cod Help

A college roommate's mother passed away suddenly, in her sleep. She was only 60.

The arrangements are this weekend in Cape Cod. The town is Barnstable, and the closest big town is Hyannis.

Another roommate from college and I are going to travel up together. We were thinking of making a weekend of it and getting a hotel room on the beach. Does anyone have any recommendations for Hyannis or a nearby town?

Okay so we came up with the hotel, but are looking for Hyannis suggestions (restaurants, beaches, etc.) - let me know if you have any!

Best sunset beach - Rock Harbor in Orleans
Craigville Beach in Centerville has a young, fun crowd or no crowd at all depending on where you enter the beach
Kalmus on the Nantucket Sound, in Hyannis, is popular to watch or go windsurfing
Veteran's Beach in Hyannis has all the amenities (showers, bathrooms, lifeguards, etc) which also means many families

We haven't eaten out much on the Upper and Mid Cape but Cobie's Clam Shack in Brewster is very good. It's on Main St., right near the Cape Cod rail trail.

Best! Val

i was just in Hyannis this past weekend. there's lots of cute restaurants on the main street in Hyannis with outdoor seating (Colombo's is a really good one). the beaches mentioned in the above post are good too. Four Seas is a great ice cream place that is well known on the Cape. Sam Diego's is a delicious Mexican restaurant.

if you need any more info let me know, my DH grew up there!

ETA: Mashpee Commons is a great outdoor shopping area with a ton of cute 'cape cod' type stores. not too far from Hyannis - maybe like 15-20 mins.

Thanks ladies. Are we going to go broke on food?

It didn't seem like any hotels were right on the beach. We got the best deal at Holiday Inn Hyannis so went with that.

We went there on our honeymoon and we went twice to Hearth & Kettle. If you like Cracker Barrel, then you'll love this place!! It's not too far from Sam Diego's if I remember correctly.
