my cat has these pimples on his neck on one side I can feel when I scratch his head. Do you think its because of the weather or something is irriatiing his skin. Do you think something like that is a big deal should I take him to the vet?

I'd take him to make sure it is nothing.

I agree. I would get it checked out too. If not, keep a close eye on it.

alright - first off don't panic it is totally normal. They are by his chin right under his neck?
Cat will get this, it is more common than you think. It is just clogged hair follicles. Much like us when we break out. Sometimes different things can effect the follicle and give the cat a problem more than usual.
For instance -- changing the cat bowl to glass will help. I know sounds crazy but they sometimes get reactions to plastic or a ceramic glaze on porcelain. That will be one of the first things the Vet will tell you.
The other thing is the food. Did you change the food recently? Sometimes if they get it on their fur it can irritate the area like an allergic reaction.
Other than that sometimes it just happens. Cats can develop as they get older cystic acne. You can use benzoyl pads once a day right on the area. I know sounds crazy but I have been to many specialists for this with my cat.
If it really gets bad you can visit the vet they will give you a medicated shampoo for the cat to wash his face with once a day on the affected area along with some bacitracin if it is getting infected.
I would try my methods bfr investing the money rushing to the vet.
GL - and keep me posted on the turn out.

Wow, that's good to know, thank you. I've never noticed this before. Can I ask, do you girls let your cats go outside? The other thing is the food. Did you change the food recently? Sometimes if they get it on their fur it can irritate the area like an allergic reaction.

NO - NEVER! I actually don't believe in this. To each it's own.

Oh, no, I feel the same way! All of my cats were house cats, and I don't remember noticing this, so I was just curious if maybe it's more common with outside cats. I guess maybe it could just be a sensitivity some cats have.

yes I imagine that outdoor cats can find more places and areas to create an issue with the acne that would be very difficult to determine what is creating it.

no he has never been outside but, I did get a different kind of food. What if I put the peroxide there and then he licks it? Couldnt that be dangerous? does it go away on its own?

Ohh, maybe it is the food then. Jen can probably answer you better about the peroxide. I probably wouldn't put that much, using a cotton ball.

you can use peroxide but you need to dilute it. Oxy pads as well and the bacitracin. The kitty will be fine. Yes it will go away if it is minor or at least get a bit better. The good news is the kitty is not in pain unless he has big cysts.
Change the bowls, change the food, and try the methods I explained.
also I forgot to mention to also try washing the face with warm mild soap and water with a washcloth in the affected area.
