ummm noooo. my friend has a newborn and 2 cats. She is having a difficult time with the cat jumping on the babies stuff. She might be worried that the baby will be allergic.

is she afraid of the cat or afraid the cat will do something to her baby?

cant you lock up the cat for the time she is there (even though you say she's quiet)?

Does she even know if the baby is allergic or assuming?

i'm pregnant and have a kitty, and see no problem with them being together. my biggest fear is that the cat is going to want to sleep in the co-sleeper w/ the baby.

is your friend's baby allergic to cats? is your cat declawed? maybe she's afraid the cat will scratch if the baby tries to touch it.

i can stick him in the bathroom, but then what if she needs to use the restroom.. i heard this from my aunt, now she's rambling about me having a cat..

i don't know if the baby is allergic? i mean c'mon.. you wouldn't even know that i had cat.. b/c he runs and hides and i''m anal about keep the apt. clean..

some people never cease to suprise me..

I'm not sure what the deal is when it comes to cats & babies. I mean, obviously a mother would be afraid of a cat scratching or jumping on her infant, but if she already knows that you're cat is far from the type, then that cant be the issue.

I remember hearing rumors that cats should not be in a home with a baby, but more so from what you're breathing in (not dangers of physically hurting the child). But I don't know if those rumors are even true. I just remember learning that it's essential not to ever clean out a kitty litter while pregnant because it can do some damage by breathing in the 'toxins'. So knowing that, I would probably also be afraid of having a newborn in that environment as well. Especially as a new first time mother, I think you're overly protective (and of course nothings with wrong with that).

The only other time I heard such things was on that movie 'Nine Months'. Remember that one? Where Robin WIlliams was the doctor and told the couple that they'd have to get rid of the cat before the baby was born? I dunno, I just always remember that scene (because it was funny, he had an accent & kept talking about her pusssy and they didn't understand ) But anyway - I don't know if that's even true.

But that's probably her concern. Is it a newborn baby?? She's probably just being overly cautious. If I were her tho, I'd probably talk to my doctor first before deciding to never visit my friends with cats ever again. lol. But if that IS the case, there's probably nothing you could do except just go to HER house where there is no cats

i remember that movie.. hilarious..

actually, its not the toxins from the litter box, its a parasite that's at times found the cats poop that will cause toxoplasmosis.. and that too if you would have to touch the poop with your bare hands and then some how you would have to ingest it.. any person without that much of personal hygiene would have a ton of other issues to worry about as well..

i am waiting for her to call me.. she's got the princess syndrome.. so it could be that it just became her head is up the clouds..

seriously - how funny is that movie? I haven't seen it in years, but now i'm so in the mood

Anyway, thanks for the info on kitty litters. I was always confused about what exactly you're breathing in. But it's actually something that must be INGESTED??? First off, who would ever touch poop, and second of all - who doesn't wash their hands afterwards? I've never seen a person scoop a kitty littler with their bare hands and then go eat a cookie right after

Well, I still think she's just being paranoid and very over protective. Hopefully she relaxes a little.
