Re: Can anybody tell me if they changed their
Actually, it was pretty hellish, but in different ways.
I know how aggravated you must have been!
First, my dad got a letter in the mail saying his license was going to be suspended in 48 hours if he didn't insure my car, which was registered to him, but insured by me. So, Patrick went to DMV before work, and stood in line for hours, only to be told that only I could change the registration because the title was in my name. I took the next day off of work (and so did Pat ~ misery loves company!) so that the reg could be changed so my dad wouldn't get his license suspended. We waited for over an hour, and the Pat got restless and left to go buy a lawn mower (men...
) and I was by myself. THEN DMV of Happauge had a fire drill, and I stood outside for an hour (NO exaggeration!). Pat came back then and they finally let us in, where we waited another 45 minutes before being called. They then did my name change on my license (no problem) and then told me that they could change the reg., but that my dad's license was being suspended for 90 days anyway because the car had been uninsured since July 0f 2001 (which is when I put the insurance in my name). We were cursing up a major storm, since my dad DRIVES for a living, and was going to kill me! We were arguing that the car WAS insured, by the OWNER (me), and that our broker AND insurance company knew the registration was in my dad's name and said it wasn't a big deal. The IDIOT working there kept repeating The Car Was Not Insured, even though we had a copy of the valid insurance card.
Luckily Patrick has no problem causing a scene and he kept demanding to speak to a supervisor. When the girl finally called one over, the supervisor told us that all that mattered was that their computer screen showed that my dad had an uninsured car registered to him, and that his license was being suspended unless he insured the car that day. So we argued and argued and to make a V E R Y long story short (too late, I know
) they finally agreed to waive the suspension if our insurance company faxed a letter saying the car was insured by an outside party while it was registered to my dad, which was easy to get since my dad and I use the same conmpany.
Soooo in the end, we called the company and got the fax, and out trip to DMV lasted 7 1/2 hours! It was NOT a good day!
