did you guys go in person or do it through the mail? do they keep your docs if you go in person?
I went in person because I didn't want to send my original marriage certificate. They just looked at it for verification -- didn't keep anything. Very easy -- I should get a new card in the mail in 2 weeks!

I guess you need to change that before anything else, like DMV?
One has nothing to do with the other. SS change is only really related to your SS benefits. DMV was actually rather easy. It cost $3 to get a new license, just bring your original marriage certificate with you. A suggestion: If you have car registration in your maiden name, you might want to change it the same day and save yourself an extra trip. I didn`t even think of this when I went to change my license. I just changed car insurance companies last week and I have to make another trip so the car is registered and insured under the same name.
Like Elizabeth said, they're not connected. I actually did DMV first.
