Changing name/college transcripts

Am I suppossed to change my name with the college i graduated from so they have my new name? Did anyone do this or does it not matter?

I guess it depends on where you're applying.. I didn't change my name on my SB transcript, but the school that i applied to just had a space for Other names that you went by, so i put in my maiden name. The SS# and DOB is the same, so i think that's enough verification for them.

I did this with all my schools...you need to write to the registrar, some required proof others didn't. I guess it only matters if you'll ever need the transcripts but usually if you need them there is a place to write your name and name you attended by. I did this since I am currently in a doctoral program and need transcripts for various stuff...

Julie, FM Beth, she can help you with this. I don't think she did this and graduated with her Masters from SBU. But she will tell you what to do.

I could help if I had changed my name already. I'm keeping my maiden name for all my academic work, so that my diplomas for BS, master's, and doctorate will match. I don't think they will send you a new diploma, but you can contact the registrar to change your name on your transcript. Even if you don't, if you ever apply for jobs or another graduate program, they'll look at the SSN to make sure it matches even if you are under a different name.

College is the only place I did not update for professional reasons. I am completing my MBA, although I started after I got married, my degree will be in my maiden name. Hubby is ok with this. My professional life is where I drew the line. My name is hyphenated legally so as not to cause any confusion. I say my full name as an introduction and people will ask which name do I wish to be known by, I usually just drop it to Charlotte.

PS I still don't answer to Mrs... you have to call me 2 or 3x before I look around! I am still getting used to a new name.

I didnt trust Stony Brook. I figure they would just screw it up so I never told them I got married, then I graduated. So everything will have my maiden name on it. But now Im trying to apply to New York State for my permanent cert and dont know what to do. I want it in my married name but all my records are in my maiden??? Good Luck!
