ok i am losing my mind. I really don't want to go in person. originally i went to the one by my job because i was told i could go to any ss office. i live in Queens & would have to go to Jamaica & its crazy down there. so i am all ready to mail away & get certified copies of my marriage license. i call social security to make sure this is it, i won't get a letter back saying i have to go in person. They tell me not only do i have to mail original/certified copy of my marriage license BUT have to mail my driver's license my ORIGINAL not a copy. How the heck am i supposed to drive

I know it might be annoying for you to get there. But I went a few weeks ago and was in and out in 10 minutes, it was such an easy process

trust me, i WORK for SS and i wouldn't mail in my documents.
i heard that it doesnt take as long anymore bc the Jamaica office JUST does SS cards

i went to the queens office first thing when they opened in the morning and there was literally NOBODY there! we were cracking up because they made me wait in the 'line' except for we were the only ones in it!!
if you can make it to the queens office, it's probably just easier that way instead of mailing all your documents in and risking them never getting back to you!

i am justing getting so pissed off because everytime i called i kept getting a different answer. i probably will just go in person. because so help me God if i get a notice back after mailing it in that i have to go in person. originally they said i can go to ANY ss office.
wish i was guy so my name would stay put

you can ask me, i will give you the correct info! If you are in NYC you HAVE to go to the Jamaica office If you want to mail it in it HAS to be the original marriage certificate AND proof of identity - no copies, even certified.
