Just a quick question, what do I need to change my name on my Driver's License? Accornding to the DMV website I need my previous license and a total of 6 points. My marriage certificate and SS card are 2 points each. Do I really need 6 points, just for the name change?

When I went I just needed my marriage certificate. I already downloaded the forms from the DMV online and had them filled out. I didn't do social security until a few motnhs later so I didn't have or need my card from the DMV

Your current driver's license and an ORIGINAL copy of your marriage certificate will score big points. Your SS card will help but you will also definitely need proof of address (a utility bill or a bank statement or credit card bill with your name and address on it). I just went through this in New Jersey.

I went last week in NY and only had to show my marriage license and my old license. I had my new SS card, but they didn't ask to see it.
Remember if you own a car that you also need to take your title & registration card to change your name on those too.

Thanks Ladies! The job of a Bride is never done!!! Our dear dear DH's don't have to go through all the lines and waiting and aggrevating people at the DMV! I say UNFAIR!!!

Definitely make sure you have the original copy of your marriage license. I brought a copy of my marriage license and my original Social Security card with my changed name and they wouldn't let me do my name change. I'll have to go back at some point in time and make the change then.

I changed it for identification purposes. Just incase someone needs to check my id at a bank or at a department store.
