Changing your name w/ the bank question

How do you do this? Do you need id? I change my name with SS, but my card didn't come yet. I didn't go to DMV yet. Is it still possible to change my name? At SS I used my health insurance card as ID.

I can't get an actual human at my bank to ask. . .

Hi Heather! My bank just told me I needed my mariage lic to change my name.

Thanks ladies! I don't have my married name on my marriage license (I was too freaking indecisivie!)

My health insurance ID along with my marriage license was ok for SS ( The health insurance company just changed it without any id)

I guess I will try with that again.

I brought my marriage license which had me with my maiden (I haven't changed yet), and DH's name. I changed my bank account in person to maiden-married name, so I can deposit checks made out to either. She said if I legally change to married name, I can just come in with new license and drop the maiden part. This was with Bank of NY. Good luck!

I would think that SS card would be the best, although marriage license would help. DW and I both hyphenated, and some places were fine (like SS office), but some like DMV gave me a hard time about changing my name. The bank was also a liitle difficult...again I think the Social Security card is the biggie to have as ID.
