no this is why it had to be done...

Her mother battled breast cancer, and she tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation linked to breast and ovarian cancer.

only way to be safe. My cuz is battling this as we speak.. she is only 37.

I admire her. Never an easy decision, regardless of age or circumstance.

J- your fam will be in my thoughts and prayers. Lost my grandmother to BC and I don't want anyone to go through what she went through.

same here about Grandma she fought that that it turned into Ovarian during my wedding planning . I am still soo MAD about it. I can't help it....she was tortured in her last days. Soo unfair. At least she made the renewal of vows

I know EXACTLY how scary this is, and I give her so much credit. My mother had breast cancer and we later found out that she has the BRCA-2 gene, which meant I had a 50 percent chance of having it. Getting tested was by far with scariest thing I've ever done in my entire life, and thank God I tested negative!!

Now my poor sister has to deal with getting tested, and the decisions that go along with it, so please keep her in your prayers.

It's so worth getting the mastectomy though, because otherwise you're constantly having to worry about when the cancer will come. Thank God if you find out you have the gene, there's a way to prevent cancer 99 percent of the time, but a mastectomy is so difficult... I give her a lot of credit for doing what she did and talking about it.

wow!

i don't know if i would have had the masectomy though.. but to each his own as far as that is concerned. it's a MAJOR operation, one that is not always necessary consdiering she may not have gotten the cancer again and it was contained in one breast.

my mom had a double mastectomy and she said that and the reconstructive surgery was worse than all the chemo. and everything else. it is extremely painful emotionally and physically. i've already had a lumptectomy (where they just take out the lump) and that hurt like hell... i can't imagine a doulbe mastectomy!)

Props to her though and best wishes for good health!

She is so brave and has a great outlook! I think its great that she is now doing something to help others. Its sad that it takes things like this to sometimes make me realize how lucky I am, and how soooo many of the things I stress about are so not important!
