Re: CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
I'm having a hard time too .... here's what i got so far:My mom got an external hard drive since she's constantly complaining about her computer not having memory (she has lots of videos). She recently got an ipad so i may get her some ipad 'stuff'. And maybe a gift cert to a restaurant. We'll see.
DH got tickets to Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson ... granted the show's not till 2012 (yeah, over a year away lol) but he's super-happy anyhow. It was very expensive so that's all he gets this year.
my 2 year old nephew is getting those 'talking' elmo hands and a construction set (one of those things with a hammer and fake nails that you get to bang on)
my 3 year old niece is getting a DVD ... and possibly one of those kids' digital cameras ... not sure yet though.
no idea for DH's parents or for my brother .... this is way too difficult this year lol

Re: CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
DH and I don't exchange holiday gifts, but for his birthday (in December), I am getting him a Wii, a pair of jeans that are kind of pricey (for him at least), and a massive pack of red bull. The red bull is really because he spends so much money on them and it's just cheaper to get them all at once
.My mom: Going to take her out clothes shopping, she needs it!
Sister: We have a $20 limit (my sibs barely make money, so we thought $20 was appropriate), so I'm probably going to get her a couple of make-up-related things
Brother: Same $20 limit, probably a DVD of some sort

Re: CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
my MIL asked all of us to start an amazon wish list last year, and i thought it was kind of rude almost, like why cant you think of something? but instead, its really the greatest thing ever. i always check to see if friends and family have one, and if they dont sometimes i'll ask them (well, only my BFF). i even sneak and look on DH's. its a good because if i see something on a website or think of something i want to get DH but not at that time, i just add it to the list.

Laura, I got my DH a brown, corduroy blazer that has leather elbow patches on it when we found out he got a tenure-track professor position (he always said elbow patches are 'very professorial,' haha, so I thought it would be a neat surprise). He loves that blazer like crazy!

You can always make stuff for the little ones! One of my friends once did melted crayon cakes, and her friends' children went bonkers over playing with them! So simple and inexpensive, but kids love stuff like that.
