Classing on how to sew

Classing on how to sew

Okay I can mend a rip or maybe add a button on to a pair of pants if it has popped off but I really don't know how to sew. I am taking a crochet class starting next month but what I really want to learn is how to sew and mend clothing. I want to make things but I have no clue how to stitch correctly. I can't learn from a book, this method never works for me and I can't find any classes or groups.

Anyone know any places that have classes? I mean I had home economics in Jr. High but that was the extent of my sewing classes. My mom has no clue how to sew and my dad is okay but can't seem to teach me with out screaming at me.

Thanks!

yea i use to go to FIT, New School is a hell of a lot more cooler but more $$$$. I think its more a formal thing which scares me since I don't want a career in it just more of a hobbie that might be a slight career. But thank you so much for posting that - seriously if i was in the city I would do it.
