Clothing for Costa Rica

What should I pack and what to avoid? We're staying 6 days on the beach, 2 on the tabacon springs and 2 on a coffee plantation

Should I stick to light cotton things? Should I take anything dressy? What about shoes?

Would you consider the packing to be similar to carribean destinations or should I do something different?

Re: Clothing for Costa Rica

when are you going? it makes a big difference.

we went to the tabacon last february- are you staying at their resort? we absolutely loved that place!!! super amazing! you must must must have a spa treatment! the hot springs are so fabulous. dinner at the resort was delicious. when the sky clears up the view of the volcano is unbelievable- at night you can see lava!

about clothing... in february is was pretty warm at the tabacon. its all about elevation. i don't know where the plantations are, but if they are in the mountains, it may be cool. i brought most shorts & tanks, some tees & definitely a long sleeve tee shirt & jeans. it is very casual there at night for dinner. we went during the dry season but i also brought a light rain jacket & hiking boots for the hikes through the cloud forests. if you are going during the rainy season, watch out!!

fm if i can help. enjoy!!

edited to add: i probably brought 9 pairs of shoes. i know, i have a problem. you will only need sneaks, casual sandals, possibly hiking sneaks/boots (but sneaks are really fine for the hikes) & a pair of shoes (sandals probably) for dinner. its casual there. summery skirts, maybe a sundress- but casual.

I was more casual that I would have been in the Caribbean. We had a pretty adventurous trip, so I had hiking boots, tevas, and waterproof clothes (great for white water rafting, rainforests) - we also had a good amount of rain in Arenal (Tabacon area). Only saw the volcano for a few hours and never saw lava.

I didn't bring jeans - too heavy, but did have a couple lighter pants. Shorts, T's, tanks, capris, a light jacket. I brought some nicer things - cute summer dress and stuff, but ended up not wearing them. I was in pants most nights.
