Congrats Karen H!

Congrats...and fingers are still crossed that the
2nd round will go as well.
Will let you know if I can come up with any
Housing suggestions. Where I live is just too long
of a commute to Bayport.
Will let you know

Thanks Phyl...

Since hubby doesn't have a job yet, it's kind of hard to focus in on an area to live, but we want to get started narrowing down the area. So far, we've begun looking in an area going from Patchogue, north to Port Jeff, and west towards Dix Hills. The hard part is knowing if its a 'good' area. It's easy to find affordable housing on Realtor.com - but you just don't know if it's in an area that is going downhill or not. When I go in for the interview I'll be asking them for recommendations too.

Speaking of hubby looking for work - he's looking for a postion in Sales Training or Corportate Training so if anyone's company is looking to hire for a similar position please let us know!

Thanks... K.

Karen H - LI Real Estate

Hi there! Glad to hear things are going well! I am so happy for you. Good luck with the next steps.
Regarding the areas you are looking at on LI - they are nice areas (Dix Hills especially!). Port Jeff is beautiful, as is Belle Terre Hills. Port Jeff Station is not as nice. Good luck house hunting! I hope it goes well.

As for hubby & I, we are going to be moving East sooner than we thought. I am hoping to relocate to CT, so I can keep my job. We recently found out that we are going to be a Mom & Dad! Eeek! ;)

MiniBride - congrats!!!

Congrats on the pending parenthood! And good luck on the move too. What does your husband plan to do about a job? Is his easily transferable or is starting from square one on the job hunt? My husband may stay behind in MA for a short while, until we get a place to move to and he can find work.

Congrats Karen! Also checkout homeadvisor.com. There you can get info about each neighborhood on Long Island in detail as well as check to see what homes are available.

Congratulations to both of you

It's so nice to hear both of your exciting news especially at a time like this. Many many blessing to you!

MiniBride Posted:

Thank you!

We are excited, and of course, a bit nervous. Hubby is an editor, and his home office in in MA, so he'll likely be working from a home office, if we can find a big enough place.

Everything's so up in the air, that we just have to take it one little step at a time. I haven't told my boss yet, b/c it's too early and I want to wait until I see my OB and know my due date for sure.

I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, I too, am going to check out some of the web sites that were suggested for real estate on LI!!

Since I am now offically on this side of the board let me add my congratulations. I hope that all goes well for you with the job. I grew up in Patchogue and can tell you that while it has had it's ups and downs there are many nice areas.Housing prices are lower there than in many other areas and you can get a lot of house in a nice area for not a lot of money. Some of the nicer areas around Bayport are Blue Point, Sayville, Bellport(south of Montauk Highway). Bayport is a lovely town as well. If there is a particular town that you are interested in, let me know and I will give you as much info as possible.

Three Village

Just giving my two cents about communities to live on LI. I grew up in the Three Village Area, which is Stony Brook, Setauket, East Setauket, Old Field -- also St. James and Port Jefferson are close there too. It was a wonderful place to grow up -- it's still beautiful especially the historic neighborhoods. Great school district too.

GOOD LUCK to all the new wives who are planning moves, new jobs, babies.
I miss Long Island a lot. I live in NC now.

Thanks for the info. If you have any friends or family in the real estate business that you want to recommend, please pass on their name and phone number.

We looked at the Patchogue / Bellport area a few years back and there are some really nice areas and homes there. I also like the North Shore so we may look at a pretty wide range of areas especially depending on where hubby can find work.

And Congratulations on joining this side of the board!

I really like the areas you mentioned too - I think I'd prefer N. Shore over the S. Shore if possible. We're definately checking out some of those areas.

Hubby misses LI and his family which is the main reason for going back there and we may still end up in Arizona where my family lives eventually, just because it's so much more economical.

It's definitely expensive to live on LI. I think that's why we'll never move up there. The taxes are unbelievable!

I do love to visit though.

Plus driving on and off LI is a pain -- if you just stay there it isn't too bad :-)

It will all work out -- and I'm sure you and your husband will be happy no matter where you end of settling.

Thanks for the congratulations. I am a North Shore woman now (for a whole 3 months so far) and I have to say that I love it. However the biggest drawbacks of North Shore vs South Shore are housing prices and taxes. Generally anything on the North Shore is much more expensive. You might want to try Swan Realty. They have been around for quite some time and have an excellent reputation. I will get their telephone number and pass it along.

Thanks - I'd appreciate the info on Swan Realty.
