so im new to the whole wearing glasses/contact thing. Ive been wearing glasses full time for about a year now and they just annoy the crap out of me since i never had to wear the before.. Last week i went a head and got contacts. The doc gave me a trail pair.. turns out that one eye was the wrong prescription so he fixed it and now i have another trial pair. This time around its a different brand.. all i can tell you is i want to rip my eye balls out.. they are so dry and irritated. i dont know if thats normal since im not used to them. also i feel like when im on the computer i get this 'halo' effect in one eye.
please shed some light for me... the doc. seems a bit strange and just keeps telling me i have to get used to them. but i dont want to spend all the $$$ on contacts then have them not be right ya know?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Contact wear'ers
Hi Ive been wearing contacts since 7th grade, was never a big fan of glasses, but i wear them alll the day... all the time, except take them out before i go to sleep. I dont know why you feel that way about your eyes being dry and the halo effect. What contact lens brand are you using??
Also you can try the Visine For Contancts Drops/ Rewetting drops if you feel like your eyes are drying out....
I got used to mine very quickly, i cant even tell im wearing them,

Re: Contact wear'ers
Try acuvu oasis (SP?). They are great you don't even feel them!
Edited: Ask your doctor for a sample pair. They will give you one for free so you can try them out without having to purchase them.

You def. shouldnt be experiencing that. Ive been wearing contacts for about 4yrs now and its like ur wearing nothign at all! I wear Acuvue 2 and I love them! plus you get awesome rebates. Sometimes (esp. in the summer) my eyes become a little dry..so I use eye drops. But never to the extent of what ur feeling. Good luck HTH

keep trying brands. i cant even tell you how many brands and solutions i have been through! honestly though, i still cant wear them every day - only for special occasions. some people just CANT wear them all the time ( not saying that this is you, just letting you know bc i thought there was something wrong with me! )

What contact solution are you using? And whats the brand of lenses? Ive been wearing them since I was 12 years old so Ive tried pretty much every brand out there.

Re: Contact wear'ers
Hmmm...the solution is like the best one out there. I asked about birth control because sometimes BC can affect the amount of tears your eyes produce. I couldnt even keep my contacts in my eyes when I started BC. Um..and Ive never heard of Bioteck. I say switch to Acuvue2 or the Hydraclears. Those are the ones Ive used for YEARS now and no problems.

Re: Contact wear'ers
When I started wearing contacts, about 15 years ago, my doc told me to ease into it. You're not supposed to wear it all day long, especially if you're on the computer all day. Start off with wearing it for a few hours a day. Maybe do it on a weekend. It will feel much better in a week. Good luck!

Re: Contact wear'ers
I've been wearing contacts since 8th grade, so my eyes are pretty used to them, but still, different brands do feel differently for me. Last year I changed to O2 Optix, and its like I don't have anything in my eyes at all. I used to wear colored contacts, and I definitely felt those.

Re: Contact wear'ers
I started wearing contacts at 16 and NEVER had that problem. I would ask them to look at the curviture of the lense and the prescription because this is not normal.

I agree with trying the different brands.I use the acuvue oaysis and I love them but if the A/C or heat is blasting, they get so dry. If you spend a lot of time on the computer, you might need to use rewetting drops more often too. Occasionally I get the halo effect when I'm on the computer for long periods of time. Good luck

Re: Contact wear'ers
I have a dry eye/irritation problem...try a contact lens that 'releases more oxygen to your eye' (according to my optometrist)...i also work for a retinal specialist (eye doctor)....try some over the counter 'blink' eye drops for contacts...they're the best..
Acuvue oasys is an awesome brand for someone with irritation
