Those are the basic instructions for all of the flowers. I'm off to scan the patterns for each flower.

Re: Craft Corner -- Beaded Flowers
They are really cute! You mentioned in the other thread you needed to figure out something to do with them-here's what I thought of-if you had enough you to use the to decorate plain shower curtain rings. You could cluster a few & use them as curtain tie backs with ribbon. You could add them to gifts with floral paper. You could decorate plain napkin rings with them. That's all for now!! Great job, thanks for sharing!
There you have it, all of the directions from the MS Weddings magazine. I don't know if it mentioned anywhere that you need 30 gauge wire, which I had a terrible time finding. I have found that if you're making smaller flowers, you can use 32 gauge wire, but if you want to make larger flowers like the roses, use 28 gauge wire, it is stronger and it will support the flower petals better. If anyone has any questions, feel free to FM me. Also, if need be, I will scan more pictures from the magazine.
RichsBride Thanks!! I really love your ideas!

Thanks so much...love that.
Could you post some photos of what the finished flowers look like (from the magazine and/or your own experience)...I'd love to do some roses but I need to see how they look.
Also - where did you buy the beads?

Re: Craft Corner -- Beaded Flowers
I tried making a flower from MS magazine (I don't have a scanner), while it came out looking similar to the pictures, it was also somewhat 'childish' looking according to FH's words...
And the petal's in the rose file came out too big, but I am still working on it. I think the rose may turn out to be too full when finished.
Stef: you can buy the beads either in the garment district shops (try 6th Ave, and like 36-37th streets), there are a few beed stores around there, on the avenue side. I do think that they're a little pricey. I got my beads through various sales in the children's stores (FAO Schwartz, toys R US), and they were less expensive that way.
For those who have not bought the beads, try your best to get the beads of exactly the same size/shape, it will make the flower turn out better.

Re: Craft Corner -- Beaded Flowers
Stef, you're right, they are expensive - I may stop by on the way from work to try getting pricing for your if you want...
When I bought beads at FAO, and other children's shops, they were about $1.50-$3.00 for a container that's about the size of your index finger (volume wise) - and they were not perfect in a sense that they were not anally exactly the same shape/size, which you can only find out when you start making the flower. I made a daffodill, that spent me about a third of the container, if not less. B/c remember, these beeds are tiny, so they don't take up a lot of space.
Also, I think Michael's sells little beeds too, and I am pretty sure that they're reasonable. I have seen both sorted and unsorted packages, for a couple of $ each. The unsorted are cheaper, but their quality I think is not as nice and you don't have your picks of the color combinations.

Stef, I also just realized that if search yahoo for 'seed beads' there is a whole bunch of online retailers who come up. I have not tried any myself, but it may be worth if you don't plan a trip to michael's soon

http://www.harlequinbeads.com These guys above sell 4,000 beads for like $3.50, which is reasonable, especially if a bunch of people don't mind sharing (I don't know of anyone needing 4,000 beads of one color)

Re: Craft Corner -- Beaded Flowers
I bought my beads at Michaels, when they were on sale for .40 cents a bag. The bags are pretty small though, and one rose takes almost a bag and a half. In the magazine, Martha suggests using beads in hanks, (when they come on the string) this way, you just have to push the wire through, so it's a lot easier to bead. I looked on ebay, and quite a few people were selling them for pretty cheap. Just make sure you buy seed beads. Also, you'll need floral tape. I've never worked with floral tape before, and maybe it's just the roll I bought, but it's not really sticky, so you kind of have to wrap it, and then twist it to tighten it in the end. I agree with Alina, my first couple of attempts looked a bit like a child made them, (the flower I posted in the other thread being one of them) but I found that if you really try to keep the beads a uniform size, and pull the wire really tight, they look a lot better. Also, I've found, that if you leave a bit of the stems of wire exposed after you wrap them in floral tape, if you pull the wires, all of the petals come closer together, and it looks a lot better. As far as the rose goes, I would suggest not making that one first. For me at least, it was really time consuming, and if it was my first attempt, I might have just given up. Also, the rose does seem a bit too full, so I'm working on a new pattern. I'll be back with more pics from the magazine in a little while.
