DH and I are looking into going on a cruise with my parents, sister and BIL for this time next year. Anyone have any recommendations (cruise lines, ships, websites) None of us have ever cruised before. Thanks!!

Re: Cruises
DH and I are split on this, even though we've both only been on one cruise. So we haven't been able to plan a cruise bc we can't decide which one to take.
I loved NCL - my favorite part was that you're able to eat at any time (I know a lot of other cruises have set dinner times) and you don't have to sit at a table with a group of people you don't know (I hate being forced to make make awkward conversation with random people!) I went on the Norwegian Dawn when it was only a few months old and it was BEAUTIFUL! We left from NY and went to Florida and the Bahamas, it was great.
DH swears by Royal Carribean though - he says it's geared more to younger people and there are a ton of fun things to do.

I was going to ask about Norwegian. I was just looking at a 10 night eastern carribean cruise from NY. Sounds awesome and its only $900pp on cheap carribean.com.!

Re: Cruises
I like Royal Caribbean for the MOST part but we had a HUGE issue on the last night of my honeymoon. I fell on a slippery surface in their pool area and I sprained my ankle BAD.. The whole thing turned green and I couldn't walk at all. Those a$$holes REFUSED to give me medial attention until I paid $350 up front. I fell because of THEIR negligence and I had to pay. I was so upset because I spent $7k on my honeymoon and instead of being treated like a person in need, they used my weakness to make more of a profit off of me. I know it sounds like I hate them because of it but everything else was good. I don't think I would sail with them again just because it really made me lose my faith in the company but in all honesty I am pretty sure the same policy holds for all cruise lines. My opinion is to get travel insurance if you do cruise! It will cover the cost of any potential medical bills.

Re: Cruises
Been on Carnival twice, Royal once, and Norwegian once...
Norwegian was our fav bc of the freestyle dining
The best itinerary for us was southern caribbean... leaving out of PR is super easy along with their lax bringing on of alcohol rules ... great ports (esp dominica... rainforest where you can do lots of hiking adventures to see waterfalls, gorgeous!)

I have found both Royal Caribbean and Carnival to be just ok but I haven't found anything better yet. We are sailing on Celebrity in less than 2 wks so I'll let you know how they are!
