Curtains!

Since a lot of us seem to be redecorating...does anyone have ideas where to get (not SO expensive), plain curtains? I priced out JCPenney's and that was going to cost $350 or so for 3 bedroom windows!! I am no good at sewing so don't suggest I buy fabric... Anyone??

Re: Curtains!

I always go to the Milburn curtain wharehouse on Voice rd.. they are VERY VERY VERY inexpensive.. I have used then for every room in my house.. i love it there, its def. at least more than 50% off what you would find them for in other stores.

Curtains are expensive, no doubt about it - I needed a few panels for my bedroom window - plus valance and it really adds up - I bought mine (by Croscill) from www.strouds.com.

Unfortunetely, good fabric is really expensive. Cheaper curtains are going to look cheap/filmsy unless you just happen to find an amazing deal.

Re: Curtains!

can you wait for a sale? I bought sheer curtains and a swag from JC Penney, and got an awesome deal. I have a HUGE picture window in my living room, and was expecting to pay dearly for a swag long enough. I found a pattern I loved, and they only had 1 left, which was the store display. They sold it to me for about 70% off, which was a great deal. It wasn't damaged at all - you couldn't tell the difference

Re: Curtains!

Thanks...I might try Marburn, there is one in Hauppauge. And I want plain, brown or linen colored and everything is flowery/patterned!

Edited to say, I don't want anything sheer either since this is for our bedroom...geez, am I picky or what??

Re: Curtains!

No, you're not picky! I only have sheer since my curtains aren't really for privacy, they're more for decoration. I have blinds that I use for privacy. Since this is just an apt and not my home, I didn't want to go crazy on window treatments all over the place.

Try Speigel. My mom buys her curtains from there. I'm not sure how expensive they are but I know they have a really good selection.

Also - BBB - use 20% off coupons (did you know you can use more than one for the same purchase, even expired ones!!!), JC Penney (wait for a sale or use coupons)

Re: Curtains!

I actually have a coupon for 25% for JCPenney's but realized, I didn't really want to spend $350 for curtains, with the coupon would have brought it down to $280 or so, which was still a lot. I like Penney's curtains though, they are heavy and not flimsy at all. The color thing is a pain too through a catalog and not being able to see/feel them!

Try eBay! They sell Pottery Barn stuff on ebay, much cheaper than the stores. Also, there is a Curtain Store on Middle Country Road and a Malburn Curtain in a bunch of locations.
I have found the exact same JC Penny/Bed Bath Beyond/Linen's Things curtains at Malburn before. Also, the outlet stores are good for this stuff.

Pottery barn has a factory outlet by the tangers, give them a call see if they have any there..

Re: Curtains!

All those other places Potter Barn, Linens & Things, BB&B, they will be just as expensive.
I found that if you go to JC Penny when they have a sale is the best buy. I think they nice curtains. All of mine are rom there.
I hate to say it, but curtains are NOT cheap.

I paid about $500 for my dining room and two hallway windows, both curtains and rods.

Re: Curtains!

I also got my panels and swags from Marburn on Voice Road and I saw the same exact ones elsewhere for double, so the quality and price can't be beat!

I love The Curtain Store in Massapequa Park, right across from the Massapequa Park train station on Sunrise Highway.

Re: Curtains!

Try the outlet mall in Riverhead. I saw wood curtain rods for a fraction of what they sell for at Linens N Things. They also had cotten tab-top curtains and other similar styles. This was in one of the outlet shops carrying sheets and such. I'm sure there are a few places there - Crate and Barrel for one - they also have some of their off-season curtains on sale.

How about Fortunoff ... is that to expensive?

Re: Curtains!

I bought some of my curtains from Fortunoff and I found the prices to be very similar (even a little lower) than the proces at JC Penney. By no means cheap, but at least not as bad as I thought.
