Day of Coordinator?

For brides who used one, did you think you needed her or could have done without?

Re: Day of Coordinator?

I think need is probably not the right word. I didnt need a wedding at all. So, yes, I could have done with her.

But having her was wonderful! I didnt have to worry about a thing and all the little details got carried out exactly as I wanted. And I learned after the wedding about a few big things that went smoothly b/c she was there on top of it all.

It was well worth having one b/c I got to enjoy every moment without having to worry a bit.

I used Elaine of Exquisite Events.

Re: Day of Coordinator?

I think it may depend on guest size also and the job of your matre D. I had around 95 guests and he did EVERYTHING>>he really did a beautiful job and I did not see the need for a day of coordinator..that may be because of my guest size or maybe my Matre D was just fabulous..Im not sure..but everything went very smoothly, perfect, with just him.

Re: Day of Coordinator?

We also used Elaine, and she was fabulous. I think the utility of a day-of coordinator can really vary with your situation. I really did all the wedding planning myself, had a 2-person bridal party, and a mom who was very uninvolved in the planning, so there wasn't anyone I could designate to run the day for us. We also had a very large wedding, and did a few untraditional things. So for us having Elaine was a must. Indeed, I wish we'd hired her earlier to help plan - I would have gotten a lot more nwr work done!

Re: Day of Coordinator?

To clairfy: My maitre d, while very good, was focused on making sure the food was being served, the bar was staffed, etc.. As he should be, his job was to act as a restaurant manager to my guests. This is a little different in some of the catering halls as there is someone that acts like a personal asst for the bride and groom at the reception. I did not get married at a catering hall so I didnt have one of those...but even if I did, I still think a coordinator is worth the money.

A maitre d will run out to the store to get white nail polish b/c I had chipped my manicure earlier in the day; carry my pew bows and church flowers from the church to the reception to make sure I got maximum value for my flowers; pass out rose petals; make sure everyone signed my guestplate; call all my vendors the day before to confirm details; and a host of other things that were great to not have to worry about.

Some people have friends or their mom do all these little tasks for them ... I dont have a mom and I didnt want to trouble my friends or guests with jobs so Elaine was wonderful.

Its not a need..but its a nice to have...much like anything wedding related :D

Re: Day of Coordinator?

Do you mind me asking what her price range is Stef? I like you do not have anyone to make sure my details are followed through and I do not want to bother any of my friends, I have been thinking of getting one but may be too $$ for me.
