Re: gift giving

if you plan on going, i would give a gift no matter what. if you don't plan on going, just don't give a gift.

Yeah if you go you have to give a gift. . .so if you really don't want to just decline. also figure they did give you a shower gift so it's something. . and it doesnt have to be huge. .

I'm also trying to figure out what to do about a wedding gift bc this person (a relative) gave nothing at the wedding and are now having theirs and I am torn bc i believe you should always give a gift but feel kind of annoyed that they didnt do anything. .

I believe u should always give a gift. But i think if invited to her shower give a gift that would equal almost or the same amount of what she spent on you, As for the wedding, like i said gift yes maybe not a large amount.

hmm. . . well I guess the real question I would ask is how do you feel about this person in general. . is it someone that aside from the gift issue. . you feel good about having in your life? If so, I say just give what you would give. .

also there's nothing to say you have to go to the shower if you get invited. . you could just go to the wedding and just give your gift there. .

I guess it's hard . . but the rule of thumb is that we shouldnt expect wedding gifts and have to be okay with that. . I know that's easier said than done bc I was annoyed with all my non gifters but still. . wait and see where the wedding will be and gauge your gift size on that. .

I agree with you. It is annoying, It happened to me, we gave the couple over 300$ and turns out we never received a card from them on our wedding, nothing... but you dont want to stoop to someone elses level and not give a gift! so if you want to go, Go but give a 'smaller' gift....

I would definitely give a gift. It's petty not to and you don't want to ruin a friendship over it. You don't necessarily need to spend a lot of money, but at least something.

i never go anywhere empty handed. if they stiffed you, dont stiff them.. but dont give them what you normally would either.

Re: gift giving

that same thing happened to me.
got a gift at shower, came to wedding with guest and didnt give anything.
i think im in luck though because she isnt even close to getting married.
prob either go to shower and give a gift and not go to wedding-or bite the bullet and shell out some money
