Dense Cake Recipe

My friend Deirdre and I are taking on a very ambitious project of trying to make DH's boat out of cake for his birthday next week. I looked into buying one like this for a grooms cake and it was so ridiculously priced that I said forget it. Deirdre thought we could make it for his birthday. She has a lot of cake experience though she has never taken on a modeling cake job. I think we will get it done.

Only problem is she wants to use the dense almond cake recipe she used for my friends wedding cake. Jason, my parents and I all HATED that cake. It was gorgeous but it was the kind of cake you needed to have a glass of water with you to eat, to dry. She can't find another good dense recipe.

Anyone have a good and tasty dense cake recipe they are willing to share?

Mandy or Jenny I would have hired you if Deirdre hadn't already taken off days from work and planned her schedule around making this cake. She put in for those days off in April.

How about a pound cake? That's dense.
