Dermatologist appointment question

So...I found two spots on me that popped up out of nowhere last week. They weren't itchy, so I know they weren't bug bites...and they're both round, like the size of a pencil eraser, so they don't seem like any kind of rash or anything.

Made an appointment with a dermatologist...since I'm a new patient, the earliest I could get in anywhere is next Friday (8/27) morning. I told the receptionist about the spots but said that I would like to have a full-body exam...might as well. I've never been to a dermatologist, and now's about the time where I should have a doctor look over my skin for any weird things. (I check myself at home about once a week, but there's only so much you can see...you know)

So...what can I expect with the full-body exam? And if anyone ever had strange spots...what do they do?

Also, I noticed another spot in the same area just this morning.

TIA. Not looking forward to being nekkid but whatever...it has to be done.

Re: Dermatologist appointment question

i have! to both!

So the full body is just you in your undies and bra usually. They give you a gown and the derm comes in to look at you. He just looks all over. No real touching or any of that. He's looking for abnormal moles or marks.

I once had an abnormal freckle that he saw when doing a strip test across my back. he said it was 'too dark' and he was concerned. So he took a 'sample' which really meant... he scraped it off me (whole thing) and sent it in for testing. it came back abnormal so it was good he removed it. But I guess not abnormal enough to signify a problem anywhere else. It burned after it was removed. It's like taking a chunk of skin off your body... and it felt like that afterwards for a few days at least.

ETA: I had to also keep that spot covered and use bacatracin or a&d ointment on it.

Re: Dermatologist appointment question

you will wear a gown and they will look for any spots or abnormalities. if you have noticed anything different make sure to mention it to them so they can check it out.

i once had a ingrown hair in the WOO HA zone and had to get a shot to decrease the swelling cause it was SOOOOOOO bad....yeah trying being open legged at the dermo...i felt like i was at the gyno!

Re: Dermatologist appointment question

Thanks, Kerri

Two of the marks are under my boob and one is right below. I hope they don't need to scrape them...that's bound to hurt! But knowing in advance that this is a possibility is good - I can throw some Advil in my bag and take it afterward.

Ugh...so not looking forward to this. Thank you for keeping me in the know about what to expect!

ETA: Just saw your response, Colleen...YEEEE-OUCH!

Re: Dermatologist appointment question

You usually wear a bra and panties. But mine will ask me to undo my bra and he peeks in my underwear. I have a ton of moles so its important he checks everywhere. (to give you an idea I have 22 on my left forearm)
