DH has no clue!

DH has no clue!

Our families decided to spend Mothers Day together so DH and I wouldn't have to run around. My IL's have a wedding that night so they could only come to brunch if we had a 11:30 seating. Low and behold, noone has any early seatings open so the whole thing turned into a big mess. So DH's solution was inviting everyone to our house for brunch. He thinks it's a simple little thing that we get some food and that's that. He doesn't get that I'm going to have to do a HUGE shopping day on Friday, start preparing food Saturday and then wake up early Sunday to get the hot stuff going. He says that he's going to 'take care of everything' but as we all know, that really means that I'll be doing 90% of the work and he'll be taking 90% of the credit.
Oh and did I mention that DH has a bachelor party Saturday night? H swears he'll be hoe by midnight so he can wake up early and not be hung over, but how much would you like to bet that he stumbles in at 4am, can't get up in the morning and does nothing to help with this brunch. He just has no clue!

Can you get it catered from a deli or something?

I would give him the shopping list and send him out on Friday!

And, I know it's Mother's Day, but I know if I asked my mom to bring something (ie bagels or danishes or something) she would. Can you do that?

Good luck!!

They just don't get it!

There is no way I can send DH shopping. Even if I gave him a list he wouldn't know how much to get of everything and then I'd either have an abundance of food or we'd run out.
Instead of having it catered I'm going to try to atleast get some platters from Costco to save me some time. I think DH feels like it isn't such a big deal for me to do all of this extra work since I only work part time. And in all fairness, I don't mind having the brunch so much, I just mind that he has no realization or respect for the amount of work it will take.
Oh, and my parents are bringing some champagne for the mimosas!

men are so stupid sometimes. My DH is famous for inviting people over, without giving me any notice to get things cleaned up, or have enough time to make something to eat for everyone.

They never have a clue when it comes to entertaining and such. The same thing has happened to me many times and he doesn't understand why I get stressed. In his defense, I am a perfectionist about it. I usually do Mother's Day Brunch at my house every year (this year we will be going out up in CT though). I recommend making a fritatta or two or some keishes (both you can make beforehand). I have some great fritatta recipes, if you are interested. With that I usually do corned beef hash (yuck), muffins, fruit salad (which you can just buy), and breakfast sausage. My SIL brings bagels & biales. We have bloody mary's, mimosa's, and coffee. Then I make a bundt cake for dessert.

Costco is a great idea. I didn't mean , like crazy expensive catered, but sometimes you can get a few hot trays from a supermarket deli or something for not too much $$.

Just let DH knwo that it is goignto to be tough with short noticie & ask him to clean, set the table , etc.

Men are SO clueless!! You should make him help out cleaning or prepping Saturday morning/afternoon before he leaves for the bachelor party so that he has some idea how much work goes into this.

Or better yet... you do all the set up and delivery work and have HIM do 100% of the cleanup -- then maybe next time he'll appreciate (and maybe think twice) how much work having a get together at home takes.

Re: DH has no clue!

We had an arguement about it earlier, but he did apologize. Like someone else said, I'm a perfectionist too, so I want everything to be just right. Here's what I have on the menu, tell me if it's too much, too little, or just right...

Breakfast foods
French toast
bacon
sausage
eggs cooked to order by DH
croissants
bagels
cream cheese
lox

Lunch foods
Ceasar salad
pasta with pesto sauce
cold antipasto platter (meats, cheeses, roasted peppers, olives, etc...)
rolls
mozzarella and tomato

Dessert
brownies
cake

Drinks
orange juice
milk
champage
mimosas
wine
coffee

Welcome to my world.

'I'll do it all.' Famous last words. And even if by some miracle of a chance they do, they don't do it right.

I've been the host of many a dinner party, party, lunch, brunch etc due to DH's voluntarism. FM if you need ideas on easier, quick dishes that look hard (that's the key!).
