DH's great idea...

We were complaining about how few friends we have that are local. DH works in CT and are from NJ so he doesn't have many friends who are local. I have HS friends but not many and its not like they are often free. DH thinks they should have a website thats like an e-harmony for married couples to meet other married couples to be friends with. He also suggested married couple speed dating.

I love the idea. What do you ladies think?

Now if only I had web design skills.

OMG....I swear...I am so thankful you posted this!

When DH got transferred off LI (we have been off 5 years now) it seems like we have never been able to make a lot of friends locally - we have maybe 3-4 couples that we get together with only on special occasions. & sadly only a few of my friends from LI will come up & visit us once or twice a year (we live next to New Paltz - so it's about 2- 2 1/2 hrs depending where you live). None of DH's friends have come up except his BM & that was initially when we bought the house & had our housewarming party - other than that - no one will make the drive. But if someone asked us to come somewhere - we totally would drive anywhere as long as DH had the weekend off (he works every other weekend...works for NYSP).

I had made the same exact comment you did about wishing there was a website where couples could meet other couples with common interests - (i.e. we like to ski, go dancing, karaoke, wine-tasting, golf, play tennis, etc) & it just seems so hard to find people to do things with & make new friends.

I say you're on to something about this & I'm certain you & I arent the only ones that feel this way & there are plenty others looking but are afraid to put it out there like you & ask. I would definitely be willing to try & work w/you on putting something together & seeing what type of response we get. My brother's good friend designs websites for a living & he might be able to help put something together like that. We would have to choose a domain name & find out how much it would cost for something like that & then maybe approach LIW to see if they would consider sponsoring a website like that.

Honestly, its so hard because DH is off LI 4 days a week and not from LI. He doesn't work here so the only people he meets are through his boat work, but most of them are not people i am going to go out to dinner with. Neither of us have jobs where we meet locals, I am on sub lists so that might help, but freelance editing means sitting at home. So we only have the people I have known my whole life. But they all have jobs and have made more friends.

Of course with the house work we have no time for socializing anyhow... not until my bedroom is done.
