My husband is diabetic and has not been taking care of himself. He went to my dr on Saturday and got an urgent phone call to call the dr back.
His sugar is way over 400.
Does anyone have recipes that are good for ppl with diabetes? He loves flavor and I'm afraid he will go back to his old habits if he's not satisfied with what he's eating.
Thanks ladies!!!

I'm really surprised that over 400 he wasn't put on insulin of in the hospital, I'm so sorry your going through this, its a very hard thing when people tell you that you can't have certain foods, it makes you want to eat them more!, the best option for him is to eat Very low carb and low fat, and most important excersice! My doctor suggest these to me, south beach, WW core. mabye you can orderer there cook books and make some of there dished for dinner they are very tasty,
i'm on an insulin pump right now so it gives me and option to eat anything i was, I took shots for about 22 years, so if you ever need to talk, i'm here

My dad is diabetic. What my mom cooks for him is regular meat (chicken, steak etc) but with Veggies. My dad only eats carbs (wheat bread) in the morning. His sugar has been controlled for years bc of the way he eats. Is your DH undergoing stress? A lot of times stress can get his sugar level to rise. Also my dad is on insulin and that is really what has worked for him. The sugar level is a lot more controlled as he measures it daily.

Re: Diabetes Help!
Well he def should excerise and eat healthy. My mom was borderline diabetic, she was overweight, so she started eating healthy stopped having sugar and went with Equal or splenda, and she is no longer borderline. The doctor was very happy. Here is a webstie i found with some helpful info:
My mom is diabetic and it is very hard to adjust. I mean our whole family had to change our style of eating. He definitely needs to eat a lot less carbs. If he does want carbs, you need to get stuff with more fiber in it. Start buying sugar free products too. Limiting the amount of carbs in his diet will help a lot.

Re: Diabetes Help!
I am not diabetic. my grandma was. She was able to totally control her sugar with her diet. I know she was basically on a low carb diet cus carbs turn to sugar.
I found this- I hope it helps!

I'm sorry I don't have any recipes but I'm always in b&n looking for dairy free cookbooks and in the same section they have tons of diabetic cookbooks. Maybe try looking for reviews on the books (they have them on b&n.com) and pick up which ever one has the best review.

I too am a diabetic and on an insulin pump. Using an insulin pump is the best thing I ever did!! He should look into. There are great diabetic cookbooks out there to choose from also.
