Did any of your DHs want the weirdest songs played at your reception?

Did any of your DHs want the weirdest songs played at your reception?

and how did you get him to back down?

This is a partial songlist my FH wrote down today:

Bee Gees - staying alive (OK he loves this song, he's such a dweeb at times but I can't say no)

Monkees - i'm a believer

Tom Jones - it's not unusal

Otis Redding - sitting on the dock

neil diamond - cracklin rosie; i am i said

manfred mann - pretty flaming ?? I can't read FH's handwriting at times

fontella (who the hell are they) - rescue me
(yeah rescue ME from this songlist from hell)

billy joel - scenes from an italian restaurant; only the good die young; piano man

beatles- hey jude;eleanor digby

elton john - rocket man

simon & garfunkel - america; the boxer; mrs robinson; sounds of silence

OK. Here's the thing. I like all these songs too (with the exception of tom jones). BUT NOT AT A WEDDING. I mean does he really want guests to sit there going 'wtf???' He thinks 'his side' would love it but I don't think so....I've talked to a few of his friends and even they thing FH has a weird taste in music.

OH. and then there's the 'SET' of irish rebel songs he thinks will be played at the end of the night. HELLO? Is he for real?

I'm sorry it's been a long day, not a good one at that and I'm just at my wit's end. I don't want these songs. How do I get him to change his mind without him telling me how he doesn't get 'anything that is his' in this wedding (which by the way is complete BS but whatever)...?

He wanted (and the band played) the Greatful Dead.
Hey--I had so much input into the wedding, it was nice for him that he was able to make and get one of his requests.

the one song that DH really wanted was meatloaf's 'paradise by the dashboard lights'. i hate that song!!! doesn't he say at the end that he is waiting for the end of time so he doesn't have to spend another minute with her???? how is that appropriate for a wedding???????????? luckily, the DJ forgot to play it (oh wait - did i forget to tell him)??

I would put a couple of songs on the play list for the DJ and tell DH that you are paying hard earned money for them to keep everyone up and dancing so they can't all be played etc.

The thing that makes wedding so fun, is everyone dancing. Many of the songs on the song list from hell you can't dance to. Tell him you will tell the DJ to play one song if people dance then have the DJ put them on at his discretion if they are dancing or not.

My DH and I have teh same taste in music, so luckily we didn't have a problem.

I agree that most of those songs you can't dance too....Sound of Silence?! I like that song too but IMO it's not going to get everyone out onto the dance floor

I gave a long list of songs to my DJ and noticed all the ones he didn't play were a bit slow....so afterwards, once I saw how many of our guests were dancing the entire night, I was happy he didn't listen to me

I had to play a mosh song

We were all cracking up when a bunch of 30 year olds were trying to mosh. They were all out of breath. I was like your not 18 anymore. It actually was one of the hits of the night. Everyone was cracking up.

He also requested Paradise by the dashboard light and SANG the entire song himself , while trying to get me to sing along. It is the funniest thing and when we got our video back it was so funny. I don't think our wedding photographer will ever forget it

Here he is

Stacey - My DH and his friends started doing THE SPRINKLER at our wedding!!

My older relatives came up to me asking what the hell they were all doing! It was hysterical

Maribelle,

Too funny! My DH also had a song list, but I wasn't aware of it! He gave it (along with some CDs!) to the DJs on the day of the wedding!!! He thought he was doing something 'good' for us, I guess. But I really wish he hadn't. The DJs spent a lot of time trying to 'play all our requests' and I think they could have done better if they were left to their own devices.

Your DH is not the only one!

Karen,

Our DJ said that anything we want to hear that we think they won't already have to bring in the CD. Fine. I figured two songs by this one irish group...a few other songs by some other groups we both like...but stuff you can DANCE to. Not Mrs. Robinson or Scenes from an Italian Restaurant.

Oy vey. We actually can go into the DJ place and pick out what they have too which is great. But I'm going to tell him 'we like Elton John, play 1 of his songs' not 'Play rocket man'. The DJ knows what people want to hear no matter where they're from. A good one will get the feel of the crowd.

This should be verrry interesting.
LOL

DH's music tastes are not really danceable......Led Zepplin...Pink Floyd...Doors, etc

he knew that they could not be played...but as a surprise I had the DJ do it during dinner...It took me tons of time to find fitting songs...that would be appropriate for dinner...but DH's friends were on the floor!!! they could not believe it!!!

even my cousin went up to DH and said a tear came to his eye when he heard Led zepplin...

and being that they were appropriate songs...the older guests had no idea...

DH wanted (and got) Wierd Al Yankovich singing Eat It as our cake cutting song! Need I say more?

OK - he also got Lee Greenwood singing God Bless the USA as our final song of the night, and, being a Boardy Barn fan (still, at 41) he wanted Bye Bye Miss American Pie - I think we skipped that one though...

DH didn't request ANYTHING. He left it up to me & the DJ

But after he sang the karaoke version of our wedding sone - 'Amazed' by Lonestar he then did 'Good Times, Bad Times by Led Zeppelin' UGH!!!!!!!!!! But now knows he should have done something different!

Sounds like my husband!! Our last song was 'On the One Road'
But, I like Irish music!

Our cocktail hour singer sings the softer Irish rebel songs. So, my husband was happy w/ that.

Re: Did any of your DHs want the weirdest songs played at your reception?

LOL Tracy

We are going to burn a CD with Clannad, Enya, the Irish Tenors, and other slower irish songs etc for our cocktail hour.

I don't mind a few of them and we're going to play that same song too as our last song. And probably Celtic Symphony as the one before that.

I found a post on here with a link to an awesome dj website with hundreds of songs all categorized into decades and then fast and slow. I don't mind hearing Billy Joel, but I'd rather her 'tell her about it' where we can dance rather than 'scenes from an italian restaurant' where people will just sit at tables. both great songs - but I want people dancing.
I'm trying to convince FH to tell the DJ 'some billy joel songs - some fast some slow' and let him make the decision. I don't think it's right or fair to tell the DJ every song to play.

Thanks girls I feel alot better now!
