Did Anyone Catch Opera Yesterday?

Did Anyone Catch Opera Yesterday?

It was about what it's REALLY like after the wedding and how 90% of women go through some sort of post-wedding depression. I can honestly say the one thing that effected me hard after the wedding was changing my maiden name, it sounds nuts but I was leaving that 'old' person behind and now I was somebody else. I got used to if after a few months but it was weird especially when I started this new job AFTER I was married and absolutely no one new the 'old' Camille...I had my maiden name for 33 yrs, now after a year of marriage I feel like I never had that name before. Ok I'm rambling...anyone else few different?

I am struggling with the whole name change thing right now actually! There is no doubt in my mind that I want to take hubbies name, but it is more of the losing my old name that bothers me. I'm sure I will get over it

I did!! I could relate to how they felt about the first year, but for me it isn't the first year of marriage, it was the 1st year of living together (almost same thing). I had a difficult time adjusting to living with DH, but after getting married life has been good!!
We kept our wedding pretty simple, so I don't think I was focusing on the planning more than focusing on the marriage. I also felt a little sad about chaning my name, even though I knew I wanted to, it was definitely an identity change thing. I had PWD for a short while, maybe a few weeks, since the excitement was gone. But, it's back!

Actually, I had a totally different experience altogether. I never really felt post-wedding depression. I remember feeling like I didn't know what to do with my time in those first few weekends after we returned from our honeymoon. Our apartment was never so clean before!! LOL.

But, I got pregnant 2 months later, so I didn't have time to be depressed. Thank goodness, b/c if I wasn't pregnant, I probably would have been depressed...but then 9/11 happened, and that most certainly would have snapped me out of any silly wedding-related depression. Reality check for sure!

My DH watched Dr. Phil and Oprah with me yesterday, since he's home on vacation this week. We were talking about what these couples were saying, and how they all seemed to be shocked by the adjustments that take place after the wedding. We both agreed that this was not our experience at all.

Our biggest adjustments happened when we first moved in together about 6 months before our engagement. I really could relate to what the women said about mourning the loss of yourself and the person you used to be. I TOTALLY went through that feeling - BUT it was before I was even engaged, forget about married! It really didn't have anything to do with my maiden name - it was more about giving up my complete independence, joining my life to his and becoming one.

Looking back, I am so thankful that all of this happened BEFORE the wedding rather than after. I think we had the opportunity to work out our differrences and realize that we were still very much in love, regardless of the little things that got on each other's nerves. And, we learned that we really had very similar expectations for marriage. That just made us more confident in our choice to get married! Now, we are very happy newlyweds and new parents!!

I missed it I only caught like 5 minutes and then I got a phone call, one of those calls where ya cant hang up so fast ! DARN !

I like my DH's last name, but I definately miss my maiden name, and at first it was also very strange to me. I Felt like I left the old me behind. Your name is your identity, who you became all these years, your background your being... I've adjusted to it, and I like my married name now. Its easy to pronouce, spell and sounds nice !

I agree that it took adjusting to living together. Constantly picking on eachothers habits, and criticizing eachother on how we do things. Its gotten much better. Now we look back at those silly arguments and laugh. We also really enjoyed and still enjoy having someone to come home to, to tell about your day, to hang out with, to plan things with, and know that you dont have to be driven home at the end of the night !!

Welp Im not married yet, ( so please dont get that I am responding in the Newlywed room) but my FH and I have been living with eachother after 2 weeks of meeting and dating. It has been a HUGE adjustment, getting to know eachother AND living with eachother at the same time. No regrets though, lol were getting married But I feel like I have lost 'myself' in this whole thing too like independancy. I am keeping my name along with his. After a yr and half though many of those feelings are fading.
