Did anyone go to Disney for HM?

Hello! I am trying to book our honeymoon to Disney, and I am not sure if we should do the Polynesian or the Port Orleans French Quarters. I have been reading reviews online for over an hour now and some VERY mixed reviews on the Polynesian. I am stumped, it is also way more expensive, but we only do this once! PLease help.

Re: Did anyone go to Disney for HM?

I am on the phone with DH and he said the Polynesian is nicer for the HM. We have stayed at the Frnch Quarter and have not been disappointed.

Another option is the boardwalk - that's where we HM'd and thoughly enjoyed it

Thank you so much. It so helps to have a real opinion, not just a disgruntled cheap traveler who wrote something up online.

Re: Did anyone go to Disney for HM?

I have stayed in about 5 or 6 different disney resorts and can honesly say that all of them have been very nice. The only one I didn't love was the Old Key West resort because it is HUGE but I enjoyed my stay there and in all of the others.

And I am sure you know this, but everything in disney is expensive/over priced. After a day or so, you get past it.

Re: Did anyone go to Disney for HM?

I have also stayed in both resorts(although not for my honeymoon) and I like the Polynesian much better. Even though the Polynesian is one of the oldest resorts the rooms are much bigger than in Port Orleans (French Quarter). I think it is because the Polynesian is considered a deluxe resort and Port Orleans is a moderate resort. The beds are also bigger in the Polynesian, plus you have direct monorail access, which you do not have a Port Orleans.

In my opinion the Polynesian is much better for a honeymoon. It's more romantic and generally there are less kids there.

Re: Did anyone go to Disney for HM?

The great thing about the Polynesian is the monorail access, which is only available to three resorts in Disney, the other two being the Contemporary, and the Grand Floridian. However, all Disney hotels have buses, and they're ok, but they get really crowded around the times the parks open and close. If you have a rental car, I believe that your parking pass for the hotel is good for free parking in the parks, though I'm not positive.
As for the hotels, the Grand Floridian really is grand, but so is the price tag that goes along with it. The contemporary is nice, but a little old. That's also the one downside of the Polynesian; it's a little out dated. If you want a really beautiful Disney hotel, but don't want to splurge on the GF, look into the Boardwalk. It's fairly new, and it's really beautiful. The really great feature of this hotel is that it's attached to the boardwalk, which has restaurants and shops. It's really cute, but it can sometimes get very crowded, and a little noisy. You can also walk to Epcot along boardwalk.
I've never stayed at the French Quarter, but I read somewhere that they've recently closed half of that resort for renovations. If you're looking at the moderate resorts, the Caribbean Beach is really nice. It's set up as little villages, and each village has it's own pool. There is also one larger pool in the center of the resort, where the food court is. If you're looking to save a little money, but still have a nice hotel, I think it's a great choice. Keep in mind though; the rooms at most of the resorts, especially the moderately priced ones, are nice, but not spectacular in size or comfort. You can probably get a nicer room off of the Disney property for cheaper, but the convenience of staying on site is worth it to me, especially if you're not renting a car.

Re: Did anyone go to Disney for HM?

I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside which was very nice but a little to outdoorsy for me. Next time I want to stay at the Boardwalk.

Re: Did anyone go to Disney for HM?

We went on our honeymoon and stayed at the Polynesian. We loved it...felt like we were on a tropical island. Every night we sat on the beach and watched the fireworks over the castle. It is also a monorail resort so its awesome to wake up in the morning and get to the Magic Kingdom in 10 minutes.

I have also stayed in Port Orleans Riverside and in my opinion the best moderate. Its very romantic and if you are on a price constraint definately the way to go. The rooms are almost half the price of the Polynesian and Riverside is closer to Pleasure Island if you plan on going out at night.

Either one you choose will be awesome : ). I'll see if I have any pics of the Polynesian on my computer for you.

Re: Did anyone go to Disney for HM?

We went to Disney on our Honeymoon too, but stayed off-site at the Sheraton Vistana. It was our own little condo with a kitchen. We did rent a car, but I believe they had buses as well, and it helped us save some money also to not stay on site.

Re: Did anyone go to Disney for HM?

We honeymooned at the COntemporary. We chose it for the convience, and b/c we had already stayed at the ohters on the monorail. I enjoyed the hotel and the restarunt on the top floor was AMAZING.

OUr next trip I would like to go to the Board walk.... that hotel was beautiful and close to Epcot.
