Did anyone make changes to their passport?

Did anyone make changes to their passport?

I have a form here to change to my passport to reflect my new name. It says they need a certified marriage certificate (no photocopies). Did you send the original copy of your certificate or something else? I don't want to lose my only official copy! How did you do this?

You should not sent your original!! Certified copies can be ordered from town hall (where your went for licence) If you didn't ask for any when you applied.
Hope this helps.

Debbus---yes it helps so much! Thank you! I just called and found out I can just go in to where I got the license to pick up a certified copy.

Thanks for the info! I would never want to part with my original marriage license!!!

Is that all you need to change your passport?

I am dreading that one because I had such a hard time getting my original one because I do not have a driver's license and they didn't like my permit or NYS non-drivers id for some reason!

I know when I got my original passport, I had to give them my original birth certificate and that scared me. But they did mail it back to me in a timely fashion.

I just went onto this website

http://travel.state.gov/name_change.html

and printed up the form. You just mail in your current passport with the certified copy of your marriage license, and they send it back to you with the name change.

cool..that sounds easy. I should order the extra marriage license and get that out of the way !

This is the Department of state web address.
They have all the information!

i got my passport changed. I was nervous about it, but I did send my original certificate to the address indicated, along with my passport. Everything was sent back to me in about 6 weeks, with the change made, so for me it all worked out....actually it was funny to see that all they do is put some sort of stamp in the back page that refers to the fact that there is a name change, i thought it would look more official than it does!!

piece of cake - they sent the certificate back without a problem, and there's simply an amendment in the back (which I could've typed myself, its so unofficial looking). I get annoyed when I travel and they don't even look for it - aren't they supposed to be verifying the names of passengers?!

question, when we go for our marriage lisence in March, I can order extra copies of it while I am there? Can someone please explain this to me?
Thanks

lisat - isn't it amazing? My friend said she received her amended passport back, and she couldn't believe how simple the change was! And don't they charge you about $50 for that??!! You'd think it would be a little more official, especially with all the heightened security around.

Jenn - I believe you can order extra copies while you're there - I didn't know who I'd need them for, and since they're about $10 each, I figured I'd wait and then call - it's simple to order them afterwards too.

Jennbaby,
You can ask for additional copies when you apply for your licence.
