Nope she didnt like it, she felt threatened
Funny thing is that a picture surfaced of her with another student getting a noogie and she has a smile on her face

wow, I definitely think that students should never touch their teachers, but that seems like a pretty harsh punishment for a noogie. I could see it making sense if the student punched the teacher.

I agree that the students shouldnt touch their teachers, he gave her a hug and a noogie is what the story said. I just think-like the news said-the punishment should fit the crime. AND then every noogie should have repurcussions-not just some

My question is how do you get into a situation where a student gives you a noogie? To me, it seems like she must have been joking around with them and a student went too far, but who knows about the boundaries (if any) she sets in her classroom. It just seems like a really random thing to happen in school. I have had many things happen to me during my time teaching, but a noogie no. I even had a student get up when everyone was sitting quietly and start dancing front and center. Kids are unpredictable but for one to come up and touch you . . just weird in my opinion.
ETA: As for the punishment, each school district typically has a 'rule book' which guides punishment. It probably had listed 'expulsion/superintendent suspension for touching a teacher' As a teacher, I would definitely expect the student to be suspended. I am sure the administration will be investigating this further and for now I hope it is 'only' a superintendent suspension which basically is indefinite until everything can be sorted out and not an expulsion.

I agree with you complaetely. Its one of those weird instances that you have to refer to a rulebook for. And she migth have felt threatened because to give a good Noogie you gdo have to overpower the other person and sorta headlock them which is SO innapropriate between students and their peers, much less the student and teacher.
BUT she shouldn't be hugging students either. Thats in the rule book too; I wasn allowed to hug my little ones who wanted to hug me all day. I had to 'pat them' without a'full embrace.'
Its to protect us from claims of sexual misconduct around students.
Both were def out of line and she should have set stricter boundaries. I don't think the kid deserved to be expelled though. Suspended yes both she should also ahve ben reprimanded for allowing a situation to escalate to that level.

Suspended for a week? Okay. Suspended for the rest of the year? That's a little strange, unless there's more to the story than what we know & this kid is a real piece of work which is definitely possible. I agree though that I can't imagine how the situation would arise for a kid to give a teacher a noogie to begin with. As a teacher though, I tend to take the teacher's side in this so I'd like to know the whole story.

Re: Did anyone see this on the news?
oh totally agree, and Im not even a teacher-but I would never hug or physically touch one of my teachers-except maybe like a high 5
But what makes me wonder is that they have apicture of her getting a noogie from ANOTHER student and she is smiling in the picture...what happened to that student? And why didnt she feel threatened then? That is the part Im confused by.
otherwise, yes suspend him (maybe not for a year) but he definitely needs some kind of punishment

I saw this on the news and its entirely absurd. Obviously the teacher doesn't like that student for some reason and decided to declare she was assaulted. I wonder if she was 'assaulted' by the kid who gave her the noogie a few days later when she had that big smile on her face?
