really weird about changing your name? I put his on the marriage certificate, but feel really reluctant and uncomfortable about using it. I know he really wants me to, but I am having issues letting go. Can I still be Lauren Maiden name His name even though I only put Lauren His Name on the marriage certificate? How does all this work?

Re: Did/do you feel
I am having issues with it as well. I still use my maiden name on practically everything, even though my license is in my married name. I only use my married name for new things....

I'm having issues, it's not that I don't want to use his name, I just feel weird doing it. I want to be Colleen HisName, but I still want to be Colleen MadienName. Does that make sense?

I didn't have any issues...My DH was actually surprised how quickly I changed all my items. Only thing left is my passport!

Re: Did/do you feel
I just added his name to my maiden name so at SS they took Vicki MaidenName Hislastname with no issues whatsoever. I didn't have a middle name to begin with so moving my maiden name wasn't a problem.
It was strange to think of myself with a new name, but now it's almost second nature.

But didn't DMV giive you a problem with that? They wouldn't let me make my maiden name my middle name.......but I could at SS.....

Goldi set me straight.
It's one of those things that *you think* will be so devastating, and then when you do it and get it ALL over with (meaning, you change everything over)...you are like, 'wow, that's not so bad.'
Seriously, I feel silly for how I acted before. My passport should come in a few days and I am done.
Interesting story, I was out the other night and his BestMan asked me what my maiden name was (yeah, he had no clue) and I didn't hear him correctly and I said (rather loudly), MARRIEDNAME.
I surprised myself for calling myself by my new name, and not the old.

I didn't have an issue, I couldn't wait to take my DH's name however it was a bit sad changing names being my last name was a part of me and who I was all my life.

I felt a little weird about it at first...it's was hard to give up my name. Now...I go by both. I still have yet to legally change my name, but I answer to it all.

I have to say I didn't have any issue chaning my name but I haven't done it on everything. I changed my SS & license but I haven't changed my banking or credit cards yet.

Re: Did/do you feel
I'm feeling a bit reluctant myself - I'm so used to my maiden name. I'm not changing it at work - but I will change it everywhere else, eventually.

Re: Did/do you feel
I changed my last name almost immediately, (SS, banks, DMV, CC, work, etc...)
It was exciting and sad at the same time.

Re: Did/do you feel
At first no. I wasn't psyched to change names, but it was part of the whole 'getting married' stuff. Now, after a year, I'm considering changing my name again to add BACK my last name so I'd be hyphenated instead of just Emily His Last name (which it legally is now). These days, though, people could call me 'hey you' and it wouldn't matter.

My whole entire name on the license wouldn't work because it's way too long. DMV wouldn't allow me to even put the middle initial. So my license is just Vicki Hislastname.

Re: Did/do you feel
My only issue was (and is) at work. Everyone at work called me by my last name (Maiden of course). I thought changing my name on everything right away would help, but it didn't.

Re: Did/do you feel
It did not feel weird to me at all & in fact I couldn't wait to change my name. The only thing that took me a looooooong time to do (like 9 months) was SS just because I dreaded going there but in the end I didn't go, my DH took all the paperwork down early in the morning on his way home from a night shift.
I actually considered hyphenating our names but then realized how D*** long that would be to sign since my maiden name was 8 letters & 5 syllables & his name is 6 letters & 2 syllables. I love my middle name so I wasnt willing to give that up. My maiden name is very italian which I am mostly irish anyway so I went the easy way & dropped the long italian name & tooke the shorter Maltese name.

I don't feel weird about changing it, but I need to remember to write my new name on things. I keep writing my maiden name all the time!
