DH and I planned out a menu for the week, bought everything, but stuff in the freezer for later this week, and put out what we were going to have earlier this week.
Then we went to ILs house for dinner last night and she served exactly what DH knew I was planning to make tonight. Apparently MIL had told him she was making something else, but switched it at the last minute.
So.... obviously didnt want to make it again now, especially since DH had leftovers for lunch today. Was going to make chicken cordon bleu instead (which I had planned to make Thursday) but forgot the chicken was still in the freezer and just switched it to the fridge now. Grrrrr.
Is there a safe way to thaw chicken faster or should I figure out something else to make tonight instead?

Re: Dinner vent
fill ur sink with hot water & let it soak it'll hopefully thaw within a few hours..every hour or so refill the water with new hot water..works MUCH faster then the fridge!
ps: LOVE chicken cordon bleu

Is it safe to do that? I could make it tomorrow instead if I have to, but I was hoping to make it today

Re: Dinner vent
DH learned from the show Good Eats that the best and fast way is to let cold water running over it, we tried and it worked wonders!

Re: Dinner vent
i also put it under the kitchen faucet for a little bit and let cold water run over it
But i also dont like freezing things and have had to remind DH of this. HE likes to buy meat for the whole week and i told him to stop doing this. He went food shopping alone and came home with SOOO much meat. I have had to throw things out bc things dont always go as planned and sometimes when you expect to be home you're not. He finally realized and last week even though he brought other stuff for certain meals, he said he'll wait to get the meat. So since i dont freeze things, when i put it in the meat compartment it freezes very little and just have to put it under the water for a few mins

The best way to do it it to put the chicken in a tightly sealed zip lock bag and in a bowl of COOL water. (if you use hot, it's quicker but I don't think it's good for the meat).

yeah i dont let the water go directly over the chicken, forgot to mention that. I usually leave it in its pack all wrapped up. If it was previously opened i put saran wrap over it. But even sometimes some water will get on it and its ok. My mom has done this as far back as I can remember by using cold water and never had a problem. I picked it up from her and havent had problems either

Re: Dinner vent
And here's a recipe that Rachie posted few weeks ago and I tried, it's delicious, quick and easy to make:
honey balsamic chicken
take about 1 1/2 cups of balsamic vinegar about 1/2 cup of honey 1 1/2 teaspoons of olive oil
Mix all three ingredients together.. . . .
Take chicken dip in liquid then in breadcrumbs bake 350 degrees for about 20 min PS: if it's only for you and dh cut this recipe in half

Re: Dinner vent
OK, I'm letting it run in the sink under cool water. It's still in the original packaging, and it's thin pieces of chicken so hopefully it shouldnt take too long.
I was going to prepare it now, and pop it in the oven in about 3 hours, but I guess I'll just have to prep it later (which shouldnt take too long).
Thanks everyone. (and I prefer not to freeze things too, but of course this one time... )

I'm the same way. Dh thinks I'm so weird. I'll buy meat the day I want to make it instead of freezing it because I know if I freeze it I'll never use it. Frozen meat freaks me out

so glad to hear i am not the only one, makes me feel im not weird yeah its weird but i cant eat meat after its real frozen. Sometimes it gets a little tiny bit frozen in my meat compartment in the fridge but not bad at all. But i dont freeze meat, i just cant eat it if its too frozen. I also have to eat it soon after i buy it, I get grossed out for some reason and if its the sell by date, i cant eat it lol.
