Dinner with In Laws - What to Wear!?

Hi Ladies,

Me and DH don't really do 'fancy restaurants' and i'm not a big dress up girl unless it's a party but my FIL called asking us to go to dinner with him tomorrow night and said we're going somewhere 'fancy' in the city. I don't know what his idea of fancy is, and I don't want to be too under or over dressed. Any suggestions on what I can wear?

(I considered going to my sister or one of my friends about this question but they'll think i'm crazy...this is our first outing with the inlaws and i'd like to make a good impression and fit in)

well if you aren't the dressy type--i would suggest a pair of nice black trousers---maybe some heels/boots and a nice blouse. slap on some make up and pair it with a nice jacket & scarf

for me -- i like to wear skirts or a simple cocktail dress for when i go to a fancy restaurant--but i'm not sure if you are into that at all

You can never go wrong with black pants and a nice shirt. Heels are always cute too. Good luck!

I NEVER do skirts/dresses. I always go for cute tops from charlotte russe or ny & co. Black pants and black heels are HOT!

I always prefer to wear skirts unless its freezing becaue skirts are just classically feminine and cannot be 'too dressed' up, especially when hanging round older folks whose fancy is generalyl diff than our jeans and heels heh.

When going out with in-laws to a fancy place I wear either a black skirt with a nice blouse and heels or a simple dress -i have a great black wrap one thats perfect; nothing too fancy because its a jersey knit.

I think i've decided on this mod looking 1/4 sleeve dress. its black with one block stripe going down the right side....with patent heels and matching bag.

and if i change my mind last minute I have a black pencil skirt and nice blouse as a back up!
