Have any of you had any dealings with Direct Buy ? DH received a phone call the other night from this company. They sent us a flyer in the mail to visit their showroom (a 90 minute tour is involved) and a key, that gives us the chance to win a $50,000. house makeover. The lady called again last night and wants to know if we want to visit this weekend so now we have a 10:00 am appt on Sunday morning.
Is this a scam?

Re: DirectBuy question
A woman my mother works with is apart of this. She says it's great, but I haven't really heard anything else. I don't really know how it works and if it really is worth it though.

Re: DirectBuy question
I believe it is a yearly fee of a couple thousand dollars. Then you can go to there showroom for discounted stuff for the home. From Furniture to kitchen cabinets, bathrooms. I think it is good for contractors or if you are redoing your entire home. Hope that helps!

Re: DirectBuy question
The first rule of DirectBuy is to not talk about DirectBuy. Haha. That being said, I know someone who uses it, the fee is I think like 5 grand but you can save a lot.

Re: DirectBuy question
Thanks. I heard the membership is a few thousand and we are planning on redoing the house (new kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms), but its going to take a few years.
I'm trying to see if there is anything on consumer reports about this company.

No, it's kind of serious. I think it's ridiculous but you can be 'kicked out' if you share info.

When the person I know who is involved told me, I was dying laughing because it's just so insane. I couldn't help but make that fight club correlation, haha.

Re: DirectBuy question
DH's coworker is part of it. The yearly membership is a few thousand bucks and you end up having to pay additional money for a lot of things. He told us not to get it.

Re: DirectBuy question
I found some consumer reports review which confirms this. I just emailed it to DH and told him to cancel the appt. It actually said that if you don't sign at the time of the tour, you have to leave and will not be invited back for 5 years !!! That's craziness. It also said that its $5,000 for 2 years. Way out of our budget. Thanks girls for all the useful info.

Re: DirectBuy question
They call all the time and send us mail with a key. We just tell them we aren't ready right now but they still harass us. That is totally ridiculous to pay a fee. what do you get when you pay that fee?

Re: DirectBuy question
From what I can tell, you get the ability to shop there and get these terrific prices.
I know I'm a better shopper and can find good deals elsewhere.

Re: DirectBuy question
I agree. People aren't buying homes they way they used so that means people aren't buying new furniture so they are probably hoping for a sale so you can actually bargain with them now.

Re: DirectBuy question
My brother who a general contractor always tells me about people who have been scammed by directbuy. They charge you an annual fee and than you receive an invite to their showroom where there is merchandise but its not really cheaper than anywhere else. Save your annual fee and shop for sales.
