Are you asking if you have to do that before DMV? The answer is no to that question. But.. once you change your name, you do have to update Social Security so that you can get a new card with your new info.

NO way to do it online. It's on Old Walt Whitman Rd- Melville? Right off the road with 7-11.. it's that big blue glass building. I was in and out. Go there with your form already filled out and you'll be in and out too. Their hours are 9-4. NO late nights!!

Jen, you can do it in the city. There's one not far from work on 2nd and 41st or so. Go to ssa.gov - it'll give you the info. It's really not that bad - go like 10 min before closing. They're much quicker then since they want to go home too. I was there probably 35-40 min total.

YOu don't have to go there. You can mail in the forms and the original marriage certificate. You will get your card a few weeks later.ss application

you have to send your org marriage lisensce...i dont like that idea since you might need it for some other changes

I ordered a couple of extra copies of the original marriage license, it was easier than taking a day off to wait in the ss office
