Do love the water, but your DH doesn't or the other way around?

Do love the water, but your DH doesn't or the other way around?

My DH does not like to swim. He is afraid of the water for some unknown reason. I grew going sailing on the bay. My husband and I talked about going canoeing at this place my dad use to take me. My dear husband demands that I wear a life preserver. The water is like 2 feet deep and we can only go on out in proper weather. My dad didn't eve make my brother and I wear them when we were kids. Anyone else get a paranoid spouse or are you paranoid about the water and he is like myself?

Escalators.
My DH is paranoid about escalators. Insists that I hold on and face forward like a good child.

Water on the other hand we differ slightly.
I like the ocean, he likes the pool.
Neither of us like lakes unless they are clear.

Planes.

My DH is terrified of flying. I am not allowed to look out the window, I am not allowed to unbuckle my seatbelt AND get this...he insists that we shut the shade on the window and then insists that the people in the rows immediately in front of us and behind us do the same. Do you believe the nerve of him? And then he sits there and watches that map channel so he can see exactly how the plane is traveling the entire time. He's such a drag to fly with!

DH is afraid of heights if the whatever we are on or in is moving. If it is stable he is fine. He used to do electrical work outside on those bucket trucks and when it got windy he used to freak.

I on the other hand is terrified of the deep end of any pool and any lake or ocean area over 5 feet. It all stemmed from a childhood incident that included a swimming instructor, diving board and the deep end. Never again. Other than that I love to swim and go in the water.

If you know how to swim I don't think you would need a life jacket for 2 feet of water. If it was 5 or more I would say yea as a just in case but 2 feet . No.

GH LOVES teh water. I do not. I almost drowned once and the other time I was just really traumatized.

The time I nearly drowned I was 16-feeling my oats with my friends at the pool in Tallman where one girl's dad brought us and her little sisters. We were flirting with these guys with the giggle-giggle eye contatc thing but no actually talking. You remember what it was like to feel 16 and oh powerful in your too small bikini.

ANyway we were by the deep end horsing around. The girls KNEW I couldnt swim but one friend pushed my then best friend and she got pissed and then pushed me into the deep end as 'payback'. Then she walked away as I went under.

Now her father wasn't paying attention giving us our space. The other girl whow a sour age was just not paying attention. Liek she saw me go under but didnt give thought.

Now I know supposedly you're supposed to come up out of the water three times...DUDE I didnt come up. I sunk like a stone and was flailing but couldn't find the surface. I obviosuly dont wear glasses in the water and was disorientedt so that made it worse. When I finally did break the surface one and failed then sunk back down, I didnt come back up but one of the guys we flirted with jumped in and grabbed me because the lifeguard was too busy chasing kids around the pool.

Later we found out because he'd been listenign to su he heard me remind the girls I couldnt swim so when I went under and didnt come up, he jumped in.

The other time I was like 6 at the camp momma enrolled me inw ith my cousin. SOme stupid counselor-probably my age or younger if I think about it now (but he seemed OLD) at the time, threw me into the pool. He wnated me to get in for the test and I wa so afraid I PEED myself standing on the fawking ledge and he got pissed and said 'sink ro swim' and threw me in.

It wasn't deep water but I was frickin SIX! Sunk in and started failing and screaming and finally one of the other counselors jumped in and got me out and he just kept syaing 'I thought she would swim.'

@SS!!!!!

It s*cks because DH loves to play in the water and I even have issues putting my head under the water for the shower for any longer than it takes tow ash my hair. Weird I know.

He's not afraid of water, and he's a good swimmer, but he just doesn't think it's that fun to go swimming. So we hardly ever go to the beach ( I can maybe convince him to come with me once a summer). And when we do go, he doesn't go in the water. The only way he'll go in is if it's really warm. I love to swim though, so usually when we're somewhere that there's a pool, I'll go in and he just sits by the side and watches me.
