Do people expect thank you cards...

Original post by es2189

if they didn't give you a gift? We had about 40-50 people who didn't give us gifts. Do you think that they expect a 'Thank you for coming' card? It never even occurred to me until something I just read on LIF, but now I'm wondering.

it is tacky to then NOT even thank them for attending your special day

'Thank you for being capable of getting out of your house and attending an all you can eat-drink-dance party'

SERIOUSLY???

It is beyond TACKY to not even give a card, it is mean and hurtful

Regardless, I plan on sending everyone that was invited a thank you. But I still feel hurt by those that didnt make the effort to even give us a card.

Hey I hear ya! I said, people suck! But I cannot control whether or not my guests do the right thing, but I can control that I thank them appropriately. Like I said, you cannot expect people to do the right thing.

IMO...

You thank people for attending your wedding.

End of story.

ETA: I will get flamed for this but here goes...

You have your wedding without ANY expectation of cards, gifts, etc. It is not a fundraiser. Yes, people suck and don't give a gift or a card, but I think it is tacky to then NOT even thank them for attending your special day. It is supposed to be about people sharing in your union, having a good time with the people you love and care about. It is not about who didn't give a gift or a card.

I need more people on my level...everyone is sooo concerned with keeping track of who gave this, who didn't give this.

I completely agree with this.

With that in mind, I only did not send 1 person a thank you card & that is because she caused me a lot of heart ache.

I sent everyone a Thank You.......and actually had the non-gifters send gifts. We got one card on our 1 yr anniversary!

I would send a thank you, but would not be happy about it.

If someone brought me at least a card (money or not) I would send a thank you. But someone who shows with nothing...I wouldnt send one.

I haven't sent thank yous to non-gifters yet. All of the non-gifters have said that i'll be getting a gift 'soon' or keep saying that they misplaced the card so I'm waiting til I get the gift.

My FIL was so insulted that a few of his cousins didn't give gifts that he said something to them.

This is exactly what I think.

I thanked my non-gifters, even though I was insulted by most of them. I never got gifts from them. Even the ones who said 'it was coming'. It is really annoying and when I think about it my blood boils but oh well. I did the right thing- inviting them and thanking them and if they want to be rude and not give us a gift or even a card... well then... i hope people do the same to them if and when their time comes!!

I'm not writing one for anyone who didn't give us a gift...I have enough to write already.

If they came to your wedding without a gift of any sort, I tend to think they are from another planet and probably don't even know what thank you cards are...so I wouldn't waste 40-50 thank you cards, ink, and time if I were you.

BTW..that is a lot!

Or they came for a free meal and a night out We had a no gifter, and they will NOT be getting a thank you card ,tacky or not. I think it is even more tacky to attend a wedding and not give anything..but that's me. And if I couldn't afford a gift, I wouldn't be at the wedding.

Re: Do people expect thank you cards...

I sent TYs to everyone who was there and everyone who couldn't attend but sent a card (gift or no gift). We had TONS of OOTers and many did not give gifts or cards. But they were there and I was happy to share our TY cards with them so they'd have a little reminder photo from our wedding. I'm sure many just went straight in the trash, but who cares? It wasn't that much extra work (and I probably had a good 30+ that fit this category).

I don't know... I guess presents just aren't that big a deal to me. If people come to my baby shower without gifts, they will certainly still get TYs for coming. It's just the way I am. (They'll probably also all get birth announcements, whether they attended or not.)

Do whatever you want. What do you really care what other people say about it?

I never did send ANY vendor TYs. By the time I was going to get around to it, it was like 6 months later and I just didn't care anymore about sending them TYs. I had already thanked them enough the day of with nice tips and through email immediately after the ones that were important to me.
