Do short people exert more energy than tall people?
I was running with DH the other day who is like 7 inches taller than me and I was having a hard time keeping up and felt like it was because I am short and have to move my legs many more times than him to keep a steady pace! (It was also like 85 degrees and I was partially dying of heat exhaustion and he seems to be more of a natural runner than me!) But either way...it got me wondering if I was exerting more energy????

i'd imagine so....taller ppl have a longer stride. scientifically it seems OK to me lmao

Hmm not sure as far as medically or scientifically speaking, but if you're pacing your steps to his than you're definetly pushing yourself harder than he is. I mean your legs are shorter so you have to push yourself to keep upo with strides that will take him elss effort and energy. When i used to run with a friend, she was in the same boat; she was 4'10 and I'm 5'6 and my strides are long naturally (no waist but loooong legs) so it was a better workout for her than me because she ahd to hustle to keep up where i could trot.

I've always thought the same thing! I'm 5'0 and DH is 5'8, and a lot of times when we're at the gym we walk on the treadmill next to each other at the same speed. And I'm walking so much faster than he is! I really think it does make a difference.

I have the same problem!! it doesn't help that DH is is better shape than me anyway, so to run at a pace with me is like cake for him (he is 6'2' and I am 5'4').....

Having longer legs will make you be able to move faster. DH is 5'11 and I'm 4'11. He runs a lot faster at the gym then I do and I'm in much better shape.

hum.. I tend to differ b/c I can't keep up with my DH and I have long legs too.
I am tired alot walking next to him . .. I am not sure if that theory is correct. I am a slow walker and I have had short people outrun me even in track.

i always think of this when i see someone walking a small dog and the dog is taking 20 steps as opposed to the 5 that the person takes. I always feel bad for the dog! They definitely have to be exerting more energy!

Ok I was scared of this...there is another theory and its very frusturating to me...I hate that men are so much stronger and more agile than we are!!! Not that I want to be huge and big but just in cardiovascular activities! I just busted my a$$ to run a half marathon and DH who never runs just picks up and runs 4 miles with me the other day!!!! Ughhh it is not fair!
Edit - so the new theory is...I can't keep up bc he is just a natural runner (not bc he is taller)!!!!!
