We got take out from a few restaurants lately and the person who rang me up looked annoyed that I didn't give a tip.
Just curious what others do...

I normally tip $2 since the take-out is a few blocks from my place. It's courtesy, not mandated but it's only fair since the person is delivering your food and has to travel there by bike or motorcycles esp if it's in the rain or snow.

If it is delivery I tip but if I am picking-up food or am going there to take out it will depend on my mood.. I always feel funny though because I am never sure what you are supposed to do!

If it delivery I tip as well but I don't tip if I pick it up. You are paying for the food they are making and you are picking it up so I don't think you should have to tip if you are picking it up.

if i get it delieverd to the car usually like 2/3 bucks depends on what we ordered....but if i get take out and i go in to pick it up then no

My apologies ladies, stupid me...I read the post wrong. If it's pick-up then no you def don't have to tip but for delivery it's only fair since the person is delivering the food.

yes, but not what you tip when you go out to eat. About 10% is good. They are packing everthing up and making sure your order is right.
We are talking about a restaurant and not a take out place like a pizza place right?

To be honest I never tip when we get takeout. I never thought that we had to. It isnt like they are bringing the food to your house or to you at your table.
eta; When they deliver it I always tip though.

I only tip waiters and waitresses for actual service.
