do you always get charged a fee for depositing a bounced check?

do you always get charged a fee for depositing a bounced check?

one of our wedding checks bounced, it was just bad timing with when we deposited it and when we redeposited it (according to our guest's instructions) it went through fine.

In all of the other bounced check threads people mentioned being charged a fee on top of the check bouncing. To my knowledge there was no fee.... I've checked many times and even the papers in the mail didnt mention a fee

am i missing something? I have Bank of America

Yes you always get charged and so does the person who bounced it.

Most banks charge $10. I have seen it when they mail the check back to me and then on my account.

some banks have different policies. i know my bank will try depositing it twice and if it goes through the second time, no fee. if it doesn't, they charge you. also some banks have special advantages for people that have over a certain amount saved with them and not being charged for something like this might be one of the perks.

Then I think you should be ok. Hopefully your bank does not charge the fee to you (which is what I would think is fair).

some banks do, some banks don't.

Yes, I use Capital One Bank and just bounced a check (whoops-couldn't say no to the J Crew Boots)-they all charge. Unfortunately.

One of our wedding guest's wrote us a bad check and we were charged $15 for having deposited it. It appeared on our bank statement. It said 'returned check' and then stated the check amount and then underneath that it said 'returned check fee' and it listed a $15.00 charge. Since yours went through on the re-deposit, maybe your bank (kindly) did not charge you!

I'm pretty sure they all charge. It would come on your statement or if you do online banking it should say it under account transactions
